  • Shocker Men's Prouty Ratings Retirement

I started showing the Prouty Ratings on here back in the 2008-2009 season. I think now is the time to retire it. There are web sites that give a lot more detailed statistics on players. The Sports Reference website gives some advanced statistics on college basketball players. Here's a link to last year's Shocker player's statistics.

As the season goes on, I'll be referencing the Advanced statistics as they become available. For reference, here are the Wichita State player rankings for last year using the Advanced statistics and a comparison to what I had for All Games in the final Prouty Ratings. As you can see, there were only three differences in the rankings.

Thanks for all the work you've done!

Amazing! We lose Early to the NBA/graduation, and STILL return our two best players.

What I was initially doing was searching for information on the +/- stat for NBA players and was wondering if there was any kind of stat like that for college players. I didn't do a thorough search, so there might be something out there. I thought this link had an interesting take on the +/- stat.

The next big thing: real plus-minus

@1979Shocker:, I too appreciate all your work over the years. I appreciate too your idea to share some of the information from the Advanced statistic website.

One thing I'll miss is the quick historical records you could provide. Like how Cle's 39 point game against SIU last year compared to some of the other great games Shocker players have had since you started keeping track. It's easy to find the season totals for Win Shares, PER, Prouty, etc., but not single game totals for them.
