Speculating: the Valley is too physical for Nurger right now.

      Here he comes now!

I'll take 100% of the credit, of course! ;)

Pre-game show Mike Kennedy said illness and the rise of Shaq has limited his opportunities. Illness also gave Wamukota an opportunity to grab minutes. No drama here..

Did not mean to imply drama.

Guess those things were the "something else" keeping him in the bench.

I'd be more worried about r'ian Holland and why he isn't playing or getting more time...

It's obvious what ailment is keeping Nurger from playing...it's lack of reboundingitis. That will keep you on hcgm bench for sure. I think he'll figure it out, but until then he'll not crack the regular rotation.

I think Kennedy was saying it was a combination of him being sick last week, and Shaq has stepped up his game. Also it was said he needs to get stronger and improve his rebounding, thats what they need from a 6'10 player. He likes to play from the outside in instead of the inside out. Nurger will be an important piece of this team in the future, he has alot of upside and there is still alot of season left.

I don't remember the exact words that Mike Kennedy said but I got the idea that Nurger was soft when competing in the physical rebounding challenges that Gregg put them through in practice.

Same deal as Rauno, without the sisckness issue. Per Kennedy, there is an ebb and flow with performance of the freshmen. As one player's performance djps, another steps up and gets the minutes. Both he and Bob Hull are high on Ri'an. Nothing major to worry about. He just needd to tighten up his defense and ball handling.

Every player has individual strengths and weaknesses. IMHO, right now, RN is more
suited for a zone defense. I think the same applies to BW. They just don't move
quick enough yet in a man to man to switch from defending to rebounding. Therefore,
if I were coaching them, I would try playing them together and use a 3-2 matchup
zone with them underneath. This would allow them to play defense with their backs
to the basket allowing them to transition from defense to rebounding position more
easily. In addition, switching to a zone with TWO bigs underneath at once forces some
teams to adjust. After a couple minutes of this then sub them out and go back to man.
Any opinions from knowledgeable basketballers on these thoughts?

Last night 2 boards in 3 min. Looked less soft and weak than past games. We will see if it lasts.

Here's a conspiracy theory for you:

Gregg secretly despises how well a virtual DII school has played him in his time at Wichita State. He takes a back seat to no man, but somehow Marty Simmons makes life difficult on him.

Knowing that Mockevicius struggles against guarding the perimeter, HCGM has purposefully sat Nurger so as to give the Purple Pimps as little to scout as possible against a Dirk Nowitzki like barrage from Rauno.

                              That and we play zone...

Question on the last minute practices before the games. The nice thing about Gen Admission is you get there 90 minutes early and watch the team go through drills.

Is it normal to have Nurger do the dribble shoot drills with the 2 and 3 guards (including Francamp)? I don't know. If it is purposeful, it kind of looks like Coach is moving Nurger into a shooting 4 like Cle. If it is just getting warmed up and Nurger enjoys the drills, then it means nothing.
