Apparently Smithpeters has been reinstated and is practicing with the team again per SIU fans.

What a weird deal, we'll see what happens here.

It is weird. Per this article, he has been reinstated at school, but his status with the team is not determined.

Local (Carbondale) media reports the following:

Darren Kinard just reported on WSIL that he the Chancellor is sending the case back through the review process. If true this is not over. He also reported that TS is not back with the team according to SID Tom Weber.

A bizarre set of circumstances and changes throughout the day. I'm not sure anyone really knows what's happening at this point. Reading through the 18 page thread over at Saluki Nation is enough to give anyone a migraine.

Just really, really strange. Gotta feel for Saluki fans since we have a little experience with nasty and ultimately unfounded allegations aimed at a player.

Hopefully they figure things out quickly and justice, either way, is served.

The part of the earlier ruling that has been overturned pending the Chancellor's ruling is the part where he is banned from campus. He's allowed to attend classes while further investigation takes place to determine the outcome of his appeal to the Chancellor.

It appears that he is still suspended from the basketball team.

Various posters on the Saluki board are throwing anyone and everyone under the bus over this. The Chancellor, the athletic director, and Barry are all taking heat from some fans who fear (for no apparent reason at this time) a coverup.

This is sounding like a problem that hits lots of campuses. Too intoxicated to give legal consent and too embarrassed to proceed with anything criminal. Go to the University with it instead. The University is required to provide anonymity.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

I can tell you one thing. Barry will not be a part of any "coverup." If his own fans are saying crap like that, he needs to get out of there and come assistant coach at WSU where he belongs. Barry is more likely to accidentally get on ESPN and say exactly what happened with no filter in an attempt to fix another thing that is wrong with college basketball players' heads. If anyone thinks he would participate in a coverup, they are clueless.

This is true. Bears fans would say otherwise, but Barry has a long track record of not tolerating crap. In fact, contrary to what Bears fans would have you believe, Barry Hinson holds the highest graduation rate in the history of Missouri State basketball. That goes NAIA, NCAA D-2, everything. At the same time, he has had little tolerance for shenanigans. He threw the players off of the Bears that stole camera equipment. That was right in the middle of him being in hot water. He cleaned house of the problems at SIU when he arrived and kept a tidy program at Oral Bob. So, Barry has a history of both taking care of problems and graduating his kids.

Barry isn't covering up anything. And the guy has earned the right to handle these issues without too much scrutiny.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

I have been following shockernet for a couple of years now and have only recently created a profile in order to post. I found the discussions here, for the most part, to be informative and valuable. I mostly feel that I have little to add to the conversation since most of you are much more knowledgeable about Shocker basketball than I am.

That being said, I would like to say that the respect you folks are showing for an opposing coach is admirable. Although I imagine that if this type of circumstance were to take place at CU, we would not be quite as supportive of the coaching staff. Sportsmanship is an important part of competitive athletics and I appreciate the good sportsmanship being shown in this thread.

Our reaction to the actions or inactions of a coach may actually reflect the character of the coach.

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:

I think people here respect/like Greg McDermott. Him and HCGM seem to get along just fine. However, our feelings on elitist Creighton fans may differ...

Barry Hinson was amazing for the Valley when he was at SMS, has always been a likable guy, and got screwed over by the selection committee a couple times which may make him even more likable. I think most here would like to see him succeed.

Agree. I don't have any probs with the McDermotts, just the idiotic CU fan base.

For me, it all goes back to Altman's self-righteous arrogance, which has dissipated with Wookie.
