That is absolutely huge for WSU. I hope they can hold on till MVC play.

    • That would require wins against VCU (doable, but it'll be close) and Iowa (probably not happening). I hope they can pull it off though!

I wont get my hopes up either. If they win both of those, they may even afford themselves one stupid loss in the MVC. Any more than one loss will knock them back out. This is their only chance to stay relevant. They have to win those two games. I think we all know they will be tough but they are still going to drop some MVC games.

Big games this week @Denver and @VCU for them. I believe they play Iowa next week or the week after, too. They will have a chance to prove themselves.

          • Honestly, does anybody ever use the coaches poll for their rankings anymore, besides USA Today?

            • Utah went from unranked to 14th with their win over us (using coaches poll). That's quite a jump.

emaws when that happens to be the only mention they get.

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

Could be one of, if not the biggest, jump we see this season. To me, jumping Utah that much, and dropping WSU that little showed me that the voting coaches had more belief in their ranking of WSU than I would have guessed. Great sign that people believe the program has serious staying power.

                    This x1000.

It is easy in the message board world, where trolls often dominate the conversation, to see all the fruitcakes slamming WSU's schedule and trying to write them off as just "not that good". I think in general, however, WSU has reached a point of enormous respect around the country.

                    • AP rankings: WSU 11, Utah 13, UNI 23, SH receiving votes (and 5 out of rankings).

                      • Loving the respect. It is not unwarranted, but it is nice that people are showing it.

Also loving that a Valley team has avoided peeing down their leg so far this season. Keep it rolling UNI.

                        • Very respectable showing indeed.

Need to validate that respect this week.

                          • WarrenNolan.com shows the Valley sitting in 11th place in Conference RPI out of 32 conferences so they have fallen off a little bit lately. The Valley does have 5 teams in the top 100 right now with an average RPI of 59.4. However, the bottom 5 teams have an average RPI of 246.8.

2014-2015 Men's College Basketball Conference RPI (Rating Percentage Index) - a ranking of conference based on the average RPI of the teams in the conference, plus non-conference wins and losses, the best teams and automatic bids from the conferences.

It is interesting how much "respect" Wichita St. has received over the years from voters. Most Valley schools when they've been in the Top-25 over the 30 years I've been following don't really get AP Poll respect when they lose. When SIU dominated the Valley...they didn't get that kinda love. Nor Creighton for that matter. The only close program to Wichita St. to get that kind of respect over the years when they've been good is Bradley. I like it...and I'll take some more of that!!! Go SHOCKS!!!

                              • 11th in AP. UNI is 23. Seton Hall is close but no cigar (#30). It looks like the 7 ballots we saw early were a good sample. The average of those 7 ballots had WSU at #11. http://collegebasketball.ap.org/poll
