Someone on Phog.net managed to get a pic of the Curators after the meeting. They are chanting "SEC, SEC"

    • You paid a search firm 50k, and blew through a very important recruiting weekend to hire Randy Smithson/Steve Eck.

Gregg's telling himself "Thank God they didn't give me the $28 million."

        • Mizzou fans shouldn't be too down. I mean, if they put in lots of hard work maybe Anderson can lead them to a DII title too.

Alden made contact NOT to know if he could talk to Gregg (he knew he couldn't get there) but to inquire who was on Eric's short list if Gregg ever left.

Even better, during the talk, Eric asked about having Missouri come to Intrust. Alden said he loved the idea (they need the money) but didn't want to commit before he could discuss with the new coach (whomever it turned out to be). Alden wanted to know if we'd consider a Intrust/Sprint package but apparently we're just looking for a "buy" game right now.
Tell Eric to take the Intrust/Sprint package. I want more games in KC and the Shox popularity in KC has never been higher. That game would ROCK...

I guess he actually did talk to someone at MU...so MU fans have that. Honestly he'd be a little silly if he didn't at least speak with people in charge of coaching searches, you don't want to completely cut off all lines of communication and burn bridges. Hopefully his speaking with them helps with scheduling them in the future.

In all seriousness, I've thought for the last few years that Mizzou and WSU should do a F-KU move and have an annual "battle for the border" game.

No kidding. I've seen and heard more about WSU up in KC than ever.

                  • Their AD made a courtesy call to save face.

I think this says what we all know about Wichita State.

Not only are we not mid major, there are few BCS programs at our level.

WSU Fans: Oh, this should be fun. I wanna watch them try. Anybody got some popcorn?
Actually, I got the sense that most Shockernetters who made a prediction thought it would be Kim Anderson.

Perhaps not an inspired hiring for MU fans but they need to give the man a fair chance. Let me say this. I do not think MU is an mid-major program. Yes, they obviously have their share of low-major fans, but don't we all. In any case, Kim Anderson is the kind of guy I can actually hope has some success.

I don't blame MU fans for coveting Coach Marshall. Hell, who wouldn't. But BCS'ers simply do not have the capacity to understand Coach Marshall the man nor can they believe the dynamics of his current situation at Wichita State.

Some day Coach Marshall may very well move on to another coaching challenge, or he may not. However, Shocker fans who do have some feel for Coach Marshall the man and those dynamics were never overly concerned about the MU job. Not the right timing nor the right opportunity.

Certainly possible -- as I mentioned before, that was my first reaction when I read Jim's comments. Based on what he said about Anderson, I can think back to last century and absolutely understand his concern.

Still, it doesn't have to work out badly. As we all know, Randy brought his own set of quirks to WSU along with his juco success, and it's possible that Anderson > Smithson. If so, Missouri will get the bonus many of us were hoping for when Smithson the younger was hired at WSU: he's theirs to keep. Anderson isn't going to be looking for a patch of greener grass somewhere, and if he does succeed and retire from Missouri in 10-12 years, maybe he'll have enhanced the program to the point where the next hire can also be an upgrade, much as Smithson's successor Turgeon did here before embarking on his own futile search for greenery.

So, Jim, if you're back in off the ledge, good luck. I know if I were you I'd rather have had Ben Howland, chastened by his experience at UCLA. But maybe it will all work out in the end anyway -- too soon to tell.
