Unfortunately, that word eliminate "buy" games from smaller FBS and FCS schools. All other sports would then be unchanged.
Could the two sanctioning bodies not get together and agree on some kind of framework for "buy" games. I would guess some smaller FBS and FCS schools depend on at least one "buy' game a year as the difference between having and not having a football program.

Sure, but if you have whittled out all other smaller FBS schools, a loss here or there may be much less significant, teams like Kansas, Indiana, Washington State and others become "Buy" teams in a new organization. Plus, the major conferences have already begun to gravitate to a 9 game conference schedule. Buy games in general are drying up.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

If they want to break away from the NCAA for football then I say let them go. It was ruined way back when the BCS was started. College football is a cesspool now. I don't see why they have to ruin everything else. They can try and protect the other sports, but this will bleed over at some point.

I don't really feel like diving into any specifics of the proposal right now. But as a fan and alum of a Big Ten school, I hate this.

And since we all know this is football-driven, spare me the jokes about my crappy football team! :D

At what point do the ones making the money (Texas, Notre Dame, Alabama, etc.) decide they're no longer interested in sharing their revenue with the also-rans (Kansas, Texas Christian, etc.)? Run this scenario out a few years and Texas and Notre Dame realize they can get more viewers ($$) playing each other than playing one of the no-name teams, so why would they continue playing the bottom end of the 5 power conferences?
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

Lol - yeah. In 15 years they will be a new bill that says only Michigan, Ohio St., Notre Dame, Texas, Alabama, USC, Florida and Florida St. can play each other every year and create a newer conference together. Then they can just pay each football player $100,000 a year to come play there. They could call it the NFL-D league. All other schools be damned to 2nd tier conferences.

Now you're just pathetic. Trolls that get banned typically get the picture and move on. Trolls that continually come back really show how weak their lives are.

You're proving us all right about the Missouri fanbase, The KU fanbase was right about something. Way to represent.

This thread probably should have been combined with The brave new world? thread on the Around The NCAA forum,

NCAA reforming, so what does it mean for the Mountain West?

"Another item that is not mentioned at all is while not every conference has the ability to provide these new benefits within a conference, what if some individual schools do. For example, say Boise State wants to keep up with their on the field success and they feel a player stipend that the power five agree upon is feasible at the school, yet the Mountain West as a conference elects not do do so. The question becomes can this be a school-by-school basis if the conference says no to a proposal."

The NCAA is making changes to help let the power five conferences, and maybe other leagues, some wiggle room in different rules.
