I just saw something on the news about today being the seventh anniversary of the Virginia Tech shootings. Hearing that reminded me that it was also seven years ago that Gregg visited his first recruit as head coach of Wichita State.
:cry::cry::cry:
RIP Guy!
It is amazing how much our program has persevered in that time. Between Guy's tragic passing and that rough first year under 3G (not to mention the rough Valley start the next year), it seemed like our program was cursed. At that time, if you would have talked about going to a Final Four, earning a #1 seed, and winning 35 straight games, you might as well have included putting humans on Mars, paying off the national debt, and creating total world peace.
Enduring that stretch is what makes being a Shocker fan now so very sweet. After losing to Kentucky, I received a nice message from a K-Stater friend, telling me that he hoped we as Shocker fans wouldn't be down about this loss too long. I told him that we are a resilient bunch here and that while we were disappointed in the loss, we were and are still so very proud. I wouldn't trade my Shocker blood for anything.
