    I think that's the point.

But something tells me that this will be used as a weapon againsy those that aren't already in those five conferences.
those conferences already have autonomy. they operate as they choo$e. they sign mcdonald all-americans year after year- doing things the "right way" nod and a wink- but if a non-bcs so much as signs one blue-chipper, they get the cease and desist order, post haste. kentucky sneezes, cleveland state gets put on probation, is already the reality of it- it's already rigged in their favor. what more do they want?

University of Connecticut’s Shabazz Napier recently told reporters he sometimes goes to bed “starving” because his scholarship doesn’t cover food.

The only funny thing about this is that the NCAA did this to themselves and now they are blatantly trying to cut a deal (buyoff) that keeps the damage to their pockets minimal. The buyoff is a path to destruction though in my opinion as you can't pay one group of players and not another without discrimination charges being leveled at some point. With all of the millions being made...that won't touch the number of student athletes in every sport at every school and the cost to administer a program like that.

Kevin Keitzman pointed out an important statistic related to this issue. The average college student completes his/her four year college career and leaves into the job world with a $37,000 debt. The athlete has 3 meals a day with as much food as they want to eat every meal, and leaves school with no debt.

The chances of this working out well for the non-BCS schools varies from unlikely to pitiful.

He has a meal plan or is getting a check monthly for food and rent (if he isn't in a dorm). Financial planning class should be required. I have a kid who is a D1 athlete and I do not believe they should be paid a stipend. By the way the conn. Team is probably collecting meal $$ while they are away at the tournament and having their meals paid for while they are gone from campus, double dipping. Plus there are gifts collected every weekend from sponsors, allowed under NCAA rules up to a certain amount. My kid will leave with a degree and no debt, the other siblings did not get that experience

Law suits on the horizon with NCAA as defendant.

I'm not really buying the "go to bed hungry" line, unless he's up past the time that the cafeteria closes.
