  • Shout out to Coach Jans

I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

Go cut your teeth coach. We will keep your place at the table set.

Bittersweet. Jans will be a gem for some team. He's a huge asset to our program.

Agreed. But there are also a lot of other coaches right now. I'm sure many programs will look him over, but with names like Pearl, Brady, Howland, Rick Stansbury, and Michael White out there, the better jobs will disappear first.

I won't start a new thread about Bruce Pearl but he just reminds me of a snake oil salesman. I get the part that he is a good coach and a good analyst, and probably bled orange but he just seems smarmy to me.

If for some godforsaken reason Marshall left (of which I don't see happening), I would be more then happy hiring Pearl as a replacement.

He might spend too much time in the tanning bed, but he is a winner.

This article points out what many of us have known for a while, Jans will be leaving the Shox for a head-coaching position, possibly sooner than any of us would like. Notice I said a head coaching position and not "greener pastures." I'm not sure he'll walk into a situation that will afford him the same level of support or tradition that WSU offers(ed) Marshall.

Marshall never shies away from pointing out the fact that his assistants are an integral part of the success of his team and Jans has been singled out for a long time as an excellent coach and asset to this team. Good for him, I hope he gets the call before Pearl.

Chris Jans seemed like a really great guy the couple times I met him. It's a fact he can coach and recruit his ass off. I would hate to see him leave WSU but I will root for any team he coaches.

Looks like Pearl is taking the Auburn job. One less BCS job out there.

Boston College fired Donahue today. Anyone think they will take a look at Jans or are they more likely to hire a former head coach on the market?

In the last 20-30 years, when has an assistant at a non-power conf school, with no D1 head coaching experience, been hired as a head coach at a power-conference school?

I don't know the answer, but I bet the number is quite small, if there are any at all.

I think Jans is going to have to get his shot from a school like one we will be playing Friday night.
