  • Some love for Evan Wessel

Evan made 2nd-team All-MVC Scholar-Athlete, which is awesome, but that's not really what this thread is about.

Not to call anybody out, seriously, but I seem to remember some individuals on the board a long time ago positing that the only reason we recruited Evan was to have an "in" with Perry Ellis.

I think we can all agree, after seeing the way Evan works on defense, rebounding, and loose balls, even without the prolific 3-point shooting we are all hoping comes back (and we have seen signs of life of recently), that he has without a doubt shown why Marshall offered him.

    CAN I GET AN A-MEN?!

And another resounding A-MEN! Wessel is a very good player, and when his shot returns, which I fully expect that it will continue to do, he'll make an even bigger contribution.

Really hope Evan gets some chances to shoot this weekend. Got him out of the slump vs. Loyola and Drake, then no attempts in the Bradley and MSU blowouts.

Obviously Evan is a guy who doesn't get much credit but I think he's a very important part of the team. He's a veteran of Marshall's system who knows exactly what coach wants. He knows his role on the team and plays it well. I still think he will be Hatch v2.0 by the time he leaves. His toughness off the bench is valuable.

Evan Wessel has played in 38 games in his Shocker career. He is 38-0 in those games. Maybe Evan is just good at associating himself with a winning team, but Evan and winning seem to go hand-in-hand. I don't think that is totally coincidental.

                      Edit: Make that 39-0

                            A-MEN.

Whenever EW is in the game, it seems I watch him save a possession for us by grabbing an impossible rebound, or shut down an opposing player's drive with astounding defense, or some other magical display of basketball prowess. Dude can ball.

One of these days, Evan is going to hit a very important game winner, and the bench and fans are going to go nuts!
