This just irks me . . .
Speaking of WSU merchandise sales, there is something that is going on that just bothers me. No matter how I try to block it out of my thoughts, every time I go to this store I can't help to think about this . . .
I assume most of the Dillon's stores in the Wichita area are like the one that's nearby my home. It has a large, prominent display of Shocker gear and accessories. It appears to me that they are doing very well capitalizing on Shocker mania, because almost every time that I go into this Dillon's there are at least 2 or 3 people looking at their Shocker merchandise. So, what's wrong with this? Up to this point, nothing. I have no problem with stores such as Dillon's, Walmart, etc selling WSU merchandise. Personally, I like going to places like Sports Time, Tad's or the WSU Bookstore. That's just my personal preference and I don't have a problem with people buying stuff at other places.
Here's what bothers me, and please correct me if I'm wrong about any of this. I'm pretty sure that Dillon's provides corporate sponsorship to KU and K-State athletics. I think they are a big sponsor of the annual sunflower showdown football game between KU and K-State, and they probably provide other sponsorship to these two schools. To my knowledge, Dillon's does not provide any visible sponsorship or support to WSU athletics. So, every time in the past few weeks I go into the Dillon's and see that they are apparently making a killing selling WSU merchandise it just gets to me. I know WSU gets some of the money through the licensing arrangements, but come on Dillon's, why can't you provide some sponsorship to the "other" D1 program in the State that just happens to have the best basketball team?
How do others feel about this? Am I off base on this or incorrect on my facts? Thank you for alloiwing me to have this therapy session and getting this off my chest.ShockerNet is a rat infested cess pool.

You're not the first SN poster to notice that Dillons generally blows off WSU - which is ironic considering their highest concentration of stores is in the Wichita metro area. They do market a little bit at CKA with the new ribbon boards during games, but yes it is nothing compared to their support of the two NE KS KBOR schools.
I've pondered putting them on my do not shop list for this reason, but they have a virtual market monopoly unless you want to go to Target or Walmart.
From a marketing perspective it is a no-brainier to support WSU within the Wichita metro area. So much so that when a company doesn't I automatically assume it is personal at some level with owners/executives having other heavy allegiances. If you hold a grudge against my alma mater, I respond in like-kind as a consumer.Last edited by SHOCKvalue; March 4, 2014, 09:17 PM.

I will buy the occasional shirt at Dillons for convenience sake, but for ten months out of the year the ratio of KU/KState stuff to ours is about 10 to 1 if not higher. I know lack of football may have something to do with this, but have often wondered myself why seemingly they wait to see if we have a good season and then roll out the products like they carried our brand all along?
The whole thing smells of bird and feline feces.

I think most of you have summed up everything pretty well. It's really annoying, especially when our only other grocery alternative is Walmart.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.
