Well if we played in the A-10 and had those teams come into Koch arena we could probably sell out each time. Oh wait! I too would like to know what the A-10 TV package is compared to the MoValley.

Here is the A-10's 8 year deal signed in 2012.
Under the terms of the tv deal, the A-10 receives $40 million over 8 years. That's $5 million a year. There are 16 teams (and at this point, math isn't heading in their favor). $5 million, divided by 16 teams,is $312,500 per team, per year.

I believe the A10 TV deal is $5 million a season, $357,000 per team per year. Currently the MVC pays about $200,000 a year ($14,000 a school) to get content on ESPN. So total the TV package difference is around $370,000. Since we would have higher costs moving to the A10 than Creighton did moving to the Big East (Creighton at least has a few close-ish teams), I think the additional money would not offset travel costs.

EDIT: Came across this tidbid from a 2012 article about NCAA tournament for the MVC:
Whereas major conferences rake in television money, most of the MVC's TV revenue is offset by expenses. The league was paid $1.4 million in TV rights last year, and Elgin estimated it made $200,000. The previous year the MVC made a net $17,000, according to tax documents.Last edited by RoyalShock; February 25, 2014, 12:41 PM.

It's disingenuous to list places like Chicago (7+ hours), Milwaukee (7+ hours), Cincinnati (10+ hours), etc. as "decently close" to Omaha, as if that makes a big cost difference when CU is flying their athletes to those locations anyway. Costs in that scenario are dependent on flight routes and whether the destinations are airline hubs, not miles between cities. Additionally, with WSU flying to all but one conference foe as things stand, taking that one bus trip away is not a huge deal.
The fact that people could argue over whether it would be more or less than $250k/yr shows what a non-factor travel costs truly are. Our AD's budget is around $20 million IIRC. We are talking about roughly 1% of that.

Forget the A-10 too much travel and to many bad teams. We have to get in the AAC. Travel wise it would be awesome. We already recruit the south hard and it would only get easier if we played there too. Also lots of very good to decent baseball programs in the AAC.

Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

OT Edit: I will say this. I really admire those kids who put in 4 years on the track & field teams. The distance runners have XC, Indoor and Outdoor seasons. Most everyone else has the Indoor and Outdoor seasons. Injuries can have a major impact.
Furthermore, Coach Rainbolt has 12.6 scholarship equivalents to divvy up among his 60 male athletes and 18 scholarship equivalents to divvy up among his 65 female athletes. And we think the Baseball program has it bad. Furthermore, the track and field teams are a very key component in winning All-Sports Trophies. They represent 6 of the 15 sports in which WSU participates. These kids must really love competing. Kudos to them.Last edited by 1972Shocker; February 26, 2014, 04:27 AM.

An A10 without 2 of STL, Dayton, and VCU is not a conference I would want to be in. At that point the A10 would be marginally better than the valley. I would rather stay in the valley and have closer games for fans. Do you think we would ever see the conference baseball tourney in Wichita if we were part of the A10?

I do firmly believe that SLU will be the next school added to the BIG EAST. If that is the case, an east coast school will be picked to come in with them. The schools on the east do not want more western schools than eastern schools."Hank Iba decided he wouldn't play my team anymore. Yeah, I'm down with that...WSU would be a great compliment to Navy football only. (esp with Louisville leaving)Follow me on twitter: https://twitter.com/Shox_KCfan
