I wanted to know how often we won each individual stat, ie how many teams we outrebounded an opponent, or shot more times, or had less TOs. Here is what I found:
Out of the 18 categories I looked at, we averaged winning 13 categories a game. We had two games where we beat an opponent at all but one category. The first was UNI at home, where each team had an equal number of fouls (18). The second was Illinois State at home, where Illinois State took more shots from behind the arc (but made only 1). The games where we won the the fewest categories occurred at SLU (8 categories) and vs Davidson (9). Our closest game of the year was also close at 11/18 categories.
The categories we won the most times were points (obviously 27 times, not counting ESU), defensive rebounds (25), total rebounds (23), blocked shots (23), and free throw makes (23). The categories we won the fewest times were 3PAs (12), 3PM% (13), 3PM (14), and FGA (15). Below is a list of how often we won each separate category:
FGM - 21
FGA - 15
FG% - 21
3PM - 14
3PA - 12
3P% - 13
FTM - 23
FTA - 20
FT% - 22
ORBD - 21
DRBD - 25
TRBD - 23
AST - 18
STL - 20
BLK - 23
TO - 17
PF - 20
PTS - 27
If we take away the 3PT stats, we've had one perfect game, 3 games where we beat opponents in all but one stat, and 6 games where we beat all but two stats (total of 10 games where we beat opponents in at least 13 of 15 non 3PT stats). In more than half our games we've won at least 12 of the 15 non-3PT stats. In short, we've been consistently dominate at everything except 3PT shooting. That consistent performance is the reason we are the last undefeated team in the country, because we have almost always been not just the better team, but better at almost every facet of the game. ry:
