  • The Official Fever was Right about Pitt thread

If I didn't know any better, I would say that game was fixed. But I know better.

    GARBAGE.

With the moral victory, Lunardi now has Pitt as a 4 seed.

Not sure how that game proved that Pitt was garbage. Definitely proved that Dixon was a garbage coach. And Seth Greenberg agreeing with the decision shows why he isn't coaching anymore.

What a dumb decision, and what a lucky shot.

I've had an irrational fear of Syracuse primarily based on last year in the Valley without Baker. I really want to see that game now, though.

Jamie Dixon is an idiot. Its a good thing that Pitt is ranked because he would be out on his butt as soon as he lets a ncaa bid pass them by. Pitt fans have just got to pull their hair out watching him coach.

didn't Boeheim call a timeout after Ennis made his 2 free throws to put Cuse up by 1 with 10 seconds left? At what point is it ok to call a timeout and what point do you just let them play? I agree Dixon shouldn't have called the timeout but what's the general rule on this?

I think the difference in Dixon's calling a timeout is that Syracuse had not timeouts left. But I guess if you think your guys are not organized maybe you call a time out there. You want to make sure you don't foul in that situation. I probably would not have called a timeout in that situation but whose to say how it would have worked out in that circumstance. Sometimes is just better to be lucky than good.

No, Greenburg got fired because he couldn't get along with his superiors or his subordinates. Strictly speaking, he wasn't a bad coach, at least by VT standards. But, he had no diplomatic skills at all.

10 seconds is a long time for the offense to work for a shot, so I can see wanting to call a timeout to impart some defensive instructions. With 4.4 seconds, a bobble or a couple of extra dribbles (which Ennis had to take to get past two Pitt defenders), usually means forcing a shot that has less than a 10% chance of going in. So I'd call out a defense that surely you've worked on in practice for late-game situations and let them execute, especially on the home floor.

Pitt is simply poorly coached. It's why they are overrated every year. Good talent capable of pulling off top-10 wins, but not consistent enough.

Dixon and Pitt did EXACTLY what you would want to do in that situation. He called TO to get his D set, (a mad scramble favors the offense). They did not allow the ball handler to receive the pass with momentum, basically forcing him to take more time to get up the court. Ennis was forced forced to the sideline, forced to use almost all of the clock before he got across half court, and forced to take a desperation 35-40 foot shot with 2 guys in the area to contest (they didn't do a very good job of staying in front of him). He made one hell of a shot. I would take that situation every time. Unless I am not understanding something, why is Dixon an idiot? Because he took the TO?

That might be why he got fired by VT, but I doubt not getting along with VT's admin isn't why he hasn't been able to get a new job since being fired.

I'll give you that VT shouldn't have fired him.

I think many of the former coaches on ESPN seem to be very happy doing what they are doing, so I wonder if Greenburg wants to go back to coaching. He is fairly prominent on the ESPN college basketball team.

I'm thinking that Gregg Marshall's next job post-Wichita State may very well be with ESPN and another coaching position. He might really enjoy being on the other side of the microscope and IMHO would be great in that role.
