For some reason, my feed from KNSS was not working tonight. I would appreciate if anyone could summarize tonight's show or paraphrase coach's more important comments. Thanks.

Shockers play "good" or "pretty good" defense. Recurring theme. Coach seemed to be amused by some of the questions asked. Ron and Dennis made their weekly appearances.
I'll hang up and listen.Basketball Season Tix since '77-78 . . . . . . Baseball Season Tix since '88

One guy wanted to know what it was going to take to have a "great" defense. Coach asked Mike what our D stats were and after Mike read them Coach said he thought they were a "great" defensive team now. Lots of praise about the two games on the road. Talked about the fact that they did not have a goal to warm up on because the shot clock on their goal was not working and they were fixing it. Thought it was a little unfair that they didn't split time on the good goal. Talked about the little girl that sang the National Anthem. Said the floor seemed to have a film on it which made for a slick surface. One caller wanted to know if the Coach thought that teams were "headhunting" RB but Coach said RB is a tough guy and plays hard so you are going to take some tough shots. Thought everyone was healing well from all of the contact but did not read the injury report today. One caller wanted to know that with hindsight would he have done anything different in the Louisville/F4 game. He said a referee actually told him that they were taking too long to retrieve the ball after a made basket. Marshall responded that they had been doing it that way for 32 minutes and now this guy tells him its wrong. They started the inbounds count even if a Shocker had not picked it up yet which sped the game up and FVV was the PG with Malcolm on the bench with some foul trouble. Probably left Malcolm on the bench a little too long. And of course Dennis was the last caller and Coach said " Dennis you got in with 11 seconds left and I was beginning to worry". Anyway as in another thread Ron made the observation that we were waiting until late in the shot clock to get a shot off and a couple of times. Wanted to know if the coach called that from the bench. Answer... "Dennis, Do you really think that we have a set play that I call that would not allow us to take a shot"? There were other questions about coaching clinics and the coach said they take a lot of time and thats usually in the off season so he doesn't do them because it takes away from his family time.

Personally I think it was a good question, but he approached in awkwardly and in more adversarial. It would have been better in my mind to ask if when trying to run the clock if they should still be aggressive, but only shooting if they have a high % shot. Also asking if he thought some of the shot clock violations were because we started attacking to late in the clock.

He asked if that was by design. Coach responded with something like: Do you really think I have instructed the team to just take the ball and run 35 seconds and not shoot the ball? He attributed it to the other team playing good defense.
