  • What was Shane Dennis smoking yesterday?

I caught part of his show yesterday and he listed Iowa State as a team with a possible beef for being behind WSU. Said RPI's are similar (true, ISU is 7, WSU is 6). Said ISU has only lost 4 games, all to top 25 RPI opps, including 2 to KU. Let's see just how those 2 teams stack up.

Losses outside top 100: Neither team has any... TIE
Both beat BYU. ISU @ BYU by 2. WSU in KC by 13... TIE
WSU beat Tennessee @ home. ISU beat Baylor @ home... TIE
WSU beat St. Louis on the road. ISU won @ Oklahoma State... TIE
WSU beat Indiana St. @ home. ISU won neutral site vs Boise State... TIE
WSU won @ Indiana St. ISU beat Kansas St at home... TIE

So what is left? WSU has a bunch more games vs teams outside the top 100. Let's discount those wins as "worthless" and see what ISU has done now that we have effectively trimmed off 80% of their résumé as a tie with WSU.

    ISU went 3-4 against:
Home Michigan, Home Iowa, Home Oklahoma, Road Oklahoma, Road Texas, Home Kansas, Road Kansas.

If WSU played those same 7 games and went 3-4, we would have a resume tie between WSU and ISU. What do you think is more likely? That WSU would go 2-5 or 4-3? 1-6 or 5-2? Is Shane not convinced WSU could win very often against those "big boys", even if 4 of the 7 games were played at home?

Its called talk radio for a reason. If you don't take a controversial stand on a subject that is sure to fire up a group of listeners then you can't generate the phone calls for the talk portion of the show.

Well analyzed, Jamar -- Shane may have caught a touch of the Haertl flu. Hopefully he'll get over it soon.

We go 6-1 against that schedule. We would have lost the road game at Texas due to cheerleader distractions. Other than that, we sweep.

Edit: Also, if ISU wants to prove they are better, schedule us up.

Totally disagree. You think the Shockers would beat Kansas on the road?

Look, I love the Shockers as much as everyone else on here. I'm totally stoked that they are 24-0 so far and I'm hoping for an undefeated regular season and post season for that matter. But I am also a realist who understand that if we played those 7 games, we would probably lose at least 3 of them if not 4 or 5. I've watched each of those teams play this year multiple times, and they are all excellent (which is why they have all at some point been ranked in the top 25).

By 10. That's the benefit of not playing them, since we are undefeated and ranked higher I get to conclude we'd beat 'em.

And it's time for another witch hunt on shockernet.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

If we had played KU's schedule, we would be winless.

Shockerhoops I am going to give you the benefit of doubt regards whether you are a true fan or a KU troll in disguise; no way in hell would the Shockers come close to losing 4 or 5 of those games. The likely outcomes had the Shockers played those games would have been -

Shockers would have beaten Michigan, Iowa, Oklahoma and Kansas at home - double digit wins in each game

Now for the three loses of which you posted; Shocker defense would give them tough victories over Oklahoma and Kansas (just as SDSU won at Phog land)

As another Shocker fan has posted, if the Texas Cheerleaders are banned from the court area, the Shockers would take Texas; but if the Cheerleaders are permitted to sit beneath the Shocker goals, well that could alter the outcome of the game. So IMO the worst record for the Shockers would be 6-1; but as I am a betting man, I would take the Shockers to run that table as well as they have run the table this year.

See you in Dallas! Or Lawrence if you want to meet at your house - lol!!
