That might be THE most insightful article ever written about anything, much less Gregg Marshall.

The one line omitted is "Coach where you're loved" or words to that effect that Kresse tutored Gregg.
"I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

Outstanding article. I am sure there are others on this board that know Coach better than I do. But I think this really tells his story. I am honored to have someone like this to coach the team that I love. We are so fortunate to have Gregg Marshall as our head coach!

I had no clue he had already turned down UCLA. JFC our coach is insane. I love it.

(I had read the rumors here but never in black and white like that article says.)

Amazing article. Our coach is an insane, passionate man. I just might be an insane, passionate fan. Couldn't ask for a better personality to take us to the top.

                +1

Actually, there are lots of non-"blueblood" schools that would like to say the same thing -- but with WSU's hard core of faithful fans even in lean times; the history of aggressiveness and pressure basketball pioneered long before our time by Gene Johnson; the MTXE culture brought by Gene Smithson and exemplified by players like Randy (yes, Randy Smithson) and Xavier McDaniel; and the school's institutional commitment to basketball and willingness to devote resources to the program, Marshall and WSU are about as close to a match made in college basketball heaven as you're going to find.

He stated last year in article or public speech that his reps wete approached during the tourney, but he wouldn't talk to anyone while we were playing. Apparently, they were throwing out numbers in the $2.6M range...

Not sure if it's clear to everyone or not, but this article is on the FRONT PAGE of today's sports section.

Also, WuShock is ON THE TOP HEADER albeit in red.

I thoroughly enjoyed this article. I am very pleased to know Gregg Marshall is our coach and that the Marshall family are members of our community.

I had never considered how rare it is for a coach like Marshall to just "appear". Consider the blue-bloods:

Kansas: Started by Naismith, founder of the game. Naismith coached Phog Allen, who succeeded him. Allen coached Dean Smith and Adolph Rupp, the essential founders of the North Carolina and Kentucky teams. Then the next "great" coach Kansas had was Larry Brown, coached by Dean Smith at UNC. Then Roy Williams, also an assistant for Dean Smith. Then Bill Self, an assistant for Larry Brown.

UNC: Though some would go back to Frank McGuire, who beat Kansas in 1957, most would consider Dean Smith the foundation of what the program is today. He was succeeded by Bill Gurthridge, a 30-year assistant of his, and then after a brief stint by Matt Doherty it was Roy Williams (another assistant of Smith) who took over after coaching at Kansas.

Kentucky: Rupp Allen is the founder of the Kentucky program, born in Kansas and coached at KU under Phog. He was followed by his assistant, Joe B. Hall, who was followed by Eddie Sutton (also from Kansas, the state). But most would consider Pitino the next great coach of Kentucky; he was a self-made man compared to the others. He was succeeded by his one-time assistant, Tubby Smith. Then Billy Gillespie, who was at one time the assistant of Bill Self at Illinois. Then Calipari, assistant to Larry Brown.

Basically, what I'm saying is that virtually all of the guys could track their coaching tree back all the way. That fact that Marshall has done what he has is even more amazing with that in perspective.

Marshall had great mentors, just not "high profile" names.
