Are they open to the public? Do they normally play starters vs reserves or
balance teams? Any other info a fan might want to know about them?
Red shirts can participate, right? Any info how they are stacking up?

Are you talking about Summer pickup games or practices?

I doubt there are any "scrimmages" during the season.

Not sure if serious, practicing against air only goes so far. Though full intensity scrimmages certainly are dialed back toward the end of the year.

There certainly probably aren't open scrimmages though.

The scrimmages that replace the exhibition are most definitely NOT open to the public.

However, when the guys play pick up during the summer, random people show up all the time. The only issue would be when they play "off hours" and then you need a key, or someone to let you in to the Chuck.

I'm wondering if the OP meant practices?

And that would be an emphatic NO.

            I wouldn't call those a "scrimmage".

I meant practices because I "thought" I had heard or had seen some commentary
about how hard practice scrimmages were and the guys were beating each
other up in them. Then I thought I heard mentioned how tough practice scrimmage
would be today when I figured it would be light. I think maybe the "tough" part
of it will be more verbal than physical but I really don't know since I've never
                observed a practice.

                  You scrimmage in practice.

We're probably just off on semantics.

Been awhile but I remember practice "scrimmages" as being close to game
conditions but it doesn't sound like this is what they do

We don't know exactly what they do during regular, in-season practices, other than the players have said they are tougher than playing a scheduled game. Redshirts and transfers can practice throughout the season.

I have not been to off-season scrimmages, but reports here have said they are what you might expect from a typical "pick-up" game.
