I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

Seemed pretty respectful to me. I think all the points they make are valid. Kinda refreshing from a KC station.

You know your getting respect in a weird sorta way when you get 27 min devoted to.

It's hard to argue with much of this. If you look on this board, we are constantly bagging on the competition in the Valley, yet contend we should be ranked higher for beating that sorry competition. Hard to fault others for having this dilemma.

Edit: I just got to the point where he contemplated putting KU above us, and forget the whole thing.

The problem is that they aren't having the same dilemma with Syracuse, a team with a higher SOS by just 6 spots.

If you are going to use SOS to judge a team, that is fine, but you should do it consistently. It gets way worse for Syracuse if you look at non-conference SOS, or the schedule each of us CHOSE to play.

Someone on here has a very apt saying about other teams being judged by their best numbers/results and WSU being judged by their worst.

The slight difference is that our weak part of the schedule comes in conference...games where we have no choice in playing. At Syrcause, Boeheim must have a major bout of homesickness because he never plays non-conference road games...and that is his choice. Syracsue's schedule really isn't awful...but the non-conf SoS is still worse than ours. Better example though...Pittsburgh wondered why they were an 8 seed last year instead of a 5 or 6. That 200+ non-conf SoS had something to do with it...and that was Jamie Dixon's choice. A weak schedule by choice should be judged worse than one by necessity.

It's not so much the Valley is "awful", but that we are just too good for the league anymore. They Valley will live on fine once we are out.

@Cdizzle:, are you reading my mind? We were essentially typing the same thing at the same time. :good:

I would hate for the point of comparison to be Syracuse, because I am certainly no proponent of the way Syracuse does business. I'm just being honest here. On the one hand, we clearly have a really good team, and you don't punish a team for winning all its games. On the other hand, it's really hard for me to try and gauge the relativity at this point. SLU looks like a really good win at this point, but Tennessee and Alabama have been unbelievably disappointing, and I kind of question why we didn't blow both teams out. I'm just saying it's hard for me to make the same determination, and I'm blinded by a horrific amount of bias and loyalty. So I think that's saying something.

The RPI/SOS are probably bigger factors in the NCAA seedings then they are in the rankings although some poll voters no doubt look at those things. The rankings are basically a beauty contest and right now playing in the Valley is like being forced to wear a one-piece bathing suit while the teams playing in the power conferences get to wear the sexy bikinis (Ok @WstateU: do your thang). The real test, which is performance based, will play out in the NCAA Tournament.

True. But the test you are given varies based on the results of the beauty contest.

Soren's opinion is as valid as anyone else's. I think he does a particularly good job of voicing it and I think that whole station does a great job of putting on good radio. (From a pure production standpoint they are top notch. I don't listen all day because if I have to listen to that much about the Chiefs and University of Missouri I'd blow my brains out).

But I disagree with this whole idea of a glass ceiling for a team. There has to be some growth room simply for just winning games. To say WSU can't ever be higher than X (where X is not equal to 1) seems silly. If it comes down to 34-0 and 32-2 and that is a "tie goes to the runner" type situation I say the tie breaker is the perfect record.

But that's just like my opinion man.

                          I'm just asking for clarification.
