    Fans

Its always great to have positive feedback from an opposing teams fan base. I've always thought our fan base has been cordial but very passionate. Shocker fans have alot of pride in our team and as long as opposing fans give us respect we do like wise. The fans that I can't stand are the ones who think they invented the game and there for they are the only ones that are any good, and the rest of us should just go away. These certain fans think if you don't play in a BCS conference then you are a nobody, I just love it when we spoil there party.

Obviously, technology has played a major role, but I think the history and tradition of Shocker basketball is something that can't be "trained" in a couple years. I hope to one day venture back to my old haunts and witness a game in person, sooner rather than later!
Yeah, same here. I moved from Wichita to the east coast back in 1987.

I do remember the tradition of standing and clapping at the beginning of the game and start of the 2nd half, but it was only until the Shockers scored. Interesting that they do it now until both teams have scored.

It's until the visiting team scores. However, we all hope that the Shocks have scored many points prior to them scoring.

In Mark's first game, he was startled that fans sat down after a big dunk. Kinda counter productive, he thought. He asked the fans to stand until the opponent scored as a way to put pressure on them to silence the crowd. Gregg took it one step further, asking the crowd to wait until the first field goal, as it is too easy to draw a shooting foul and score with free throws.

You would know better than me as I wasn't attending games at that point yet, but I seem to remember hearing that story. Could be slightly different...not sure.

Or are you saying that he TOLD as opposed to asking?

Reminds me of Pogo and I going to Air Force last year. We squeezed out a hard fought win against a tough AF team. On the way out a couple of older AF boosters were visiting with us - very nice. Anyway, one guy says, "well, you got us today, but our ice hockey team can kick your ice hockey team' s ass!" Priceless.
If you take the high road, you won't find much traffic there . . .

Oh I understand now...he said "ice" hockey team. The same couple also complimented all of the Shocker fans in attendance because we were "respectful" of their end game tradition of their team standing facing their student section (which was poorly attended) and singing the alma mater. Our fans stood and quietly observed until the end. Nice job Shocker fans.

I am glad we treat opposing fans with respect, but you'd think that anyone would be respectful of the service academies. I'd be happy to play any of them, regardless of RPI implications.

“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

I was there He asked the student section before a couple games, at the pep rallies and even the whole crowd. I was in the Basketball Band (Shocker Sound) 1998-2007. As some might say preaching to the choir on Sundays.

I was home in June to visit my dad for Father's Day and took a spin by 21st and Hillside and noticed The College Inn was long gone. I wasn't sure exactly where I was at that point and then, of course, CKA soon appeared in my windshield. Took a turn around the campus and then parked in front of CKA and wandered into 3G's basketball camp. Didn't stop to talk to anyone, just took it all in. Amazing what they've done to the old Roundhouse, and that was before the new scoreboard was hung. I learned a lot about being a fan attending games on the lap of my old man in that building.
