  • Espn3 question

Can you get ESPN3 through cox cable, and if so, what do you have to do?

  • #2
Yes/no. You will need appletv or something similar. I bought apple tv for $100 and a hdmi cable and hooked it up the the tv to watch espn3. or you can hook up your computer to your tv and stream it that way.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. If you mean getting access to the game, all you need is internet access. If you mean getting ESPN3 on your TV, then it has nothing to do with cable subscription. There are a number of devices that can stream ESPN3 to TVs like Roku, XBOX, etc, or you can connect a computer to your TV using HDMI or video cables (with the right adapters) to use the TV as your viewing screen.

A cheaper method than Apple TV is either a Chromecast for $35 or a Roku for about $50.

Or you can just watch it on your computer screen.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

None of the above options work on a 12" Sylvania black and white tv. They may or may not work on a 27" console. If the options don't work on the 27" console, the tv will still look great in the living room. I would suggest placing a family pboto on top of the console, along with an imitation flower arrangement and a knick knack or two. Mom and dad will kill you if they see you putting a drink on the tv, though.

For the record, I have never owned an internet ready tv. I dont see the point. Currently, I have a blu ray, x box 360 and a wii U connected to 50" Vizio.

The wii U is by far the simplest for things like Netflix, but to get espn 360 you need a hack. x box is pretty simple and the blu ray is the most dicficult.

To get ESPN3 through your cable provider, remember that your cable TV subscription must include ESPN. So, if it's your first time trying to watch, you'll be asked to login with some basic information about your cable subscription. Be prepared for this rather than wait until 1 minute before game time. ESPN3 is actually presented through a wider portal called "WATCHESPN.com" now, which also includes ESPNU events. In that latter case, your cable subscription must include ESPNU in order for you to get an ESPNU event.

I am really not following. I get ESPN3 on my lap top and hook it up to my TV with a HDMI cable.

I have an internet ready Blu Ray player that I use to watch Net Flix and manage my drones.

Is there a way to watch ESPN3 directly through the TV/Blu Ray player and by passing my lap top?

This is exactly my setup and what I do. I have tried to find an ESPN app on my Sony Blu-ray to watch ESPN3 but haven't had any luck. Unfortunately, I use a local cable company who isn't on the WatchESPN list of providers.

Does Fox and Hound ever have watch parties if the game is only for ESPN3? I know The Hill (on Douglass and Oliver) streamed it and had it playing on a projector for the DePaul game. Just wondering if Fox and Hound did the same thing.

I'm not sure if you need ESPN as part of your cable package or not. I have a minimum cable package from Cox that doesn't include any ESPN channels and I get ESPN3 on my computer just fine.

I've never been prompted to input anything on ESPN3. It could be because ESPN just goes off the IP address. I have been prompted to input information on WatchESPN which is a different thing.

The cox credentials Cable Subscription requirement is ONLY if you want to stream the game through a secondary device like an AppleTV or Roku. Those devices require a subscription in order to stream to your television. If you are streaming directly from your PC/Laptop via a cable, no subscription credentials are required. Personally, I love my AppleTV, but if you don't have a WatchESPN provider it won't work.
