Christmas joy will forever be marked by death for these people. That is too bad. Barry seemed to be winning the turmoil. But turmoil none-the-less is topped by this.
Why do bad things seem to only happen to good people? The don't. They happen to bad people as well, but that just doesn't bother you as much.
Barry has taken a lot of body blows over the years but this one is the toughest yet that I'm aware of. Still I'm confident he and his family will deal with this tragedy with strength and dignity. That's what good people do.
"Hinson expects to resume coaching duties early next week as Southern Illinois prepares to host Wichita State on Thursday in the Missouri Valley Conference opener," according to SIU's release. The Salukis are 4-8.
Barry won't coach Sunday, nor should he. He is doing the right thing by taking some time to be with family, particularly his daughter who joined the Widow Club way, way too soon and his grandson who will never know his dad. This still just makes me ill thinking about it.
As for how it affects our game with us, the preparation won't be altered too much as I would imagine the assistants do most of the advance scouting anyway. Now, if his team has any compassion whatsoever, they'd better start bringing it for their coach, who will be trying as hard as he can just to function at any quasi-normal level.

Another article on Barry taking a game off to be with his family, as well as information about sending a memorial to a trust fund for the 2-year old son.
