  • The Future with Our SHOCKERS Regarding Kansas University

Wichita St. with continued success under Gregg Marshall will be able to schedule high majors in future years!!! Boom! I said it.

Think about this for a second. Let's delve into the near future of say 3 or 4 more years. Let's say Wichita St. goes on to play in March in those next few years and again makes some serious NOISE.

Who's to say Wichita St. doesn't get invited to play in some early season tournaments against teams like FLORIDA, LOUISVILLE, OHIO ST., ARIZONA, MEMPHIS, KENTUCKY, UCLA, XAVIER, OKLAHOMA ST., MICHIGAN, GONZAGA, DUKE, WISCONSIN, NORTH CAROLINA???

Who's to say Coach Marshall isn't successful (due to trending 5+ years in the college hoops machine) in getting regular season games scheduled against the likes of FLORIDA, LOUISVILLE, OHIO ST., ARIZONA, MEMPHIS, KENTUCKY, UCLA, XAVIER, OKLAHOMA ST., MICHIGAN, GONZAGA, DUKE, WISCONSIN, NORTH CAROLINA???

If you're still following me here...after 3-4 years of more success in rankings and more importantly March...there is no need to have Kansas University on our schedule. You follow???

In fact...after said scenario potentially becomes a reality....the national media would be looking at Kansas University as hmmmm....
The thought nationally would be.....if all these other great programs are scheduling Wichita St.....why isn't the local Kansas school in Lawrence playing the other local university in Wichita, Kansas???

In other words in case you're not following....
How fun would it be for the Jayhawks to come crawling to Coach Marshall after being humiliated by national media asking..."Hey coach Marshall...you wanna schedule us (Jayhawks)"??? And coach simply says..."Thanks but no thanks...our schedule is impressively full the next few years. Perhaps maybe you'll get a chance to upset us in the NCAA tournament someday should we meet there."

    BOOM!!! :)

Kansas has taken rhe pisition for decades that WSU does not exist. They will continue to do so and simply wait for things to blow over. Five years is nothing. They have been doing this for over 50 years and they know the attention span of the public is short.

It is waste of our time and energy to even think about them. Let's just continue to win and remove them from our thoughts as much as possible.

is this some sort of competition with Phognet to see how many threads we can have about each other?

As opposed to looking up WSU’s RPI online every day?
As opposed to watching DVR’d games that we have already seen and already know the outcome of?
As opposed to getting to the game 3 hours early so we can sit 2nd row in the student section instead of 1 hour early and sitting 10th row?
        As opposed to…

I hope you get my point. WSU basketball isn’t productive in the traditional sense. It is about entertainment and enjoyment. Some of us have interested in playing KU. If we say the same thing over and over, tell us. If we have unrealistic expectations about the chances of the game happening, tell us.

But whatever you do, don’t act like it is a “waste of time” simply because thinking about it isn’t your cup of tea. I’m sure you do plenty of things related to WSU sports that I could call a “waste of time”.

Ok. Let me be perfectly, and chrystal clear on the subject.
          • It is an absolute, total waste of time to talk about a KU-WSU game outside of an NCAA tournament. It is NOT going to happen, and it is a TOTAL distraction for our coaching staff and team to even have to talk about it. We should focus on getting games with opponents of equal quality to play us. Much more productive effort.

The only time in my lifetime, and I have been a hard core Shocker fan since the mid-6Os that KU has seriously considered playing us in basketball was when Monty Johnson, a Wichitan, was the Athletic Director in the 1980s. He didn't last long and the series with KU didn't last long after him. KU is NOT going to do anything that promotes our flagship athletic program vs. theirs'. NOT going to happen. We need to focus on our own program and let them continue to lose to so-called mid-majors in the NCAA tourneys. Someday they might (actually never will) figure it out and start scheduling some mid-majors on the road during the regular season, but even then, it won't be against us.
          • As far as RPI rankings go, it is absolutely fun to watch them and discuss them, but when we collectively obsess about it to the point of searching for insults and obsessing about them, it is not enjoyable; it is somewhat lame and borderline pathetic. I get as irritated as anyone with the ignorance of so-called experts, KU fans, etc about our team and whether or not we deserve to be ranked in a particular position or not, but it is a waste of time to obsess about it with multiple threads where we are guilty of the same crap we accuse others of. Let's just try to focus on our team and take care of our own business and try to enjoy the success instead of obsessing about perceived slights against us. I have posted tweets from Seth Davis and others on his votes in the polls. He is a supporter of our team, and it is fun to "share the love". It is debilitating to spread the hate. I have also commented from time to time on certain polls and post the results. But I don't go looking for stuff against the program, just so I can be pissed off and there are more of those going on than is necessary. Not pointing fingers at any individual.

It is getting to the point, where I wonder if we are going to look back on this season and be able to say we spent more time enjoying the season than obsessing about it.
Maybe I get have less patience for this KU crap than others because I live in JoCo and have for almost 30 years now, but believe me, if I let this crap get under my skin they way others have, I would have put a bullet in my brain a long time ago (or in someone else's brain). KU supporters live in a bubble made out of 6 inch bullet proof Plexiglas. They don't get it; they will never get it, and all you can do is sit back, let them get punked by the Bucknell's, Bradleys, Northern Iowa's, and VCUs (play-in team) of the world, watch them shed their tears and shake your head, knowing they will NEVER get it.

Whenever I hear a discussion of KU as an elite program, there is always one special symbol that goes next to their name, their tournament record, etc. It is this *; the asterisk. How good can they really be if they won't play (and go out of their way to not play) us...

That's all any of us need to know.

There is one thing I am certain of, What I talk about, think about, focus my attention on ..... has absolutely no bearing and is in no way a distraction for our coaching staff nor our team. If we find talking about a possible KU game enjoyable, then I don't see it as a waste of time.

My wife thinks sports in general are a complete waste of time, I however have a different opinion. If I am watching sports, she will go to another room and do something she enjoys, I might suggest the same for you on threads that relates to the subject of playing KU.

To partake of the discussion and talk about the negatives and the unlikely hood of the game is one thing. To call the discussion a "waste of time" is another.

Marshall has brilliantly positioned WSU so that any agreement to play KU would have the appearance that KU has given in to the media and the fans. Let's face it--there is WAY too much hubris in Lawrence for them to accept that perception, and for that reason this game will likely never be played, and if it is, it will be so far in the future many of us may never see it.

In the meantime, why are we so obsessed with how KU and its obnoxiously whiny and insecure fanbase feels about us? Take a lesson from our guys on the court and be a little more mentally tough about this. Do you think Tekele Cotton feels incomplete because he has never played KU? No he doesn't because he wears a Final Four ring and carries his balls around in wheelbarrow. Do you think Ron Baker loses sleep at night because he feels KU is disrespecting him? No, Ron Baker loses sleep at night because he's busy banging all the hot chicks lined up outside his room.

We don't need to play KU to have success in the tournament, and we sure as hell don't need to play KU to feel validated.
"It's amazing to watch Ron slide into that open area, Fred will find him and it's straight cash homie."--HCGM

I'm willing to bet many of the people posting there right now don't even go to any college, much less KU.

I can and do ignore them, especially when the discussions are confined to a single or limited number of threads. It's when the threads of many subjects are hijacked and/or threads about KU multiply like cockroaches that I tend to speak up.

I will gladly "go into another room" and avoid the KU threads, but when every room (thread) in ShockerNet is infested with negativity over every possible slight or insult, either real or imagined, I think it is not unreasonable to get out some bug spray.

I could say if ShockerNetters want to talk about KU, they should do it on KU's board, and discuss it with their fans, but I won't. I don't support trolling of any kind, especially self-inflicted. I will say if folks on this board want to troll on KU's or Creighton's board, fine. Just don't bring the crap into our house. It stinks the place up...

I guess my definition of "enjoying" Shocker basketball is different than others. That would be like enjoying being henpecked to the point that I would marry multiple bitchy wives...

I can certainly see both sides of this issue but is there really anything wrong with being so prideful of an institution's program that it irritates us when others blow us off? Doesn't being a true fan mean that it's OK to carry a chip on your shoulder when it comes to this programs status in the college basketball ranks? I'm not suggesting that we shouldn't enjoy this time for what it is and hope for this success to continue for years to come. But I don't think there is anything wrong with also utilizing this time to point out to the rest of the country how crazy it is that ku acts as though we don't exist. Part of being a fan is getting wrapped up in ALL the emotions surrounding the program. Hopefully, most of them are good. But just like ku fans hate Mizzou, or dislike roy williams for bailing on their program after he said he wouldn't, there is no reason why some of us can't also get caught up in the fact that they refuse to acknowledge, much less play, us when this university puts so much into basketball. I really don't understand why people have such a problem with fans feeling that frustration.
