  • #3 Seed in the latest bracketology

Yes, yes, yes I know it is only Dec 16. But it is more fun to look at stuff like this than actual work:

At a quick glance, I see Tennsessee, SLU, and BYU all in.

Seeding is going to be very important to us fans this year. With a good seed we will most likely be in St. Louis especially if KU continues to falter.

Nice to be thinking about the benefits of being a "protected seed". Hope the Shox can make St. Louis a reality. About time to play an NCAA game that isn't 12+ hours away.

Just for fun I went to see what Creighton fan was saying about this bracket. No surprise. Them moving to a different conference sure has gone to their heads. They would get along well with KU Fan.

I may be in the minority, but there is no way at all that I want to see WSU in the NCAA tournament. I don't care how overseeded they are or where the game is played. In our first year outside of their conference, can you even imagine how unbelievably jacked they would be to get a shot at us in the tourney? It'd be like the Super Bowl for them. And there'd be so much downside (in addition to the obvious downside of being eliminated from the tourney) to a possible loss to those guys. I'd much prefer a couple years' cushion before running into GGG and company again, myself.

I too, however, think it's a virtual lock that the committee will put us in position to meet them if at all possible.

Right now, the 8/9 seed is totally our team's own fault. When you're hoping to get a great seed in the tourney and you come out and look totally disinterested and unprepared to play for large stretches of consecutive games, losing two games you were supposed to win, as part of an otherwise unspectacular out of conference schedule, you have nobody else to blame but yourself for a potentially crappy 8/9 seed. There's a lot of time left to move that needle substantially -- I still think winning out until January 1 puts Creighton in position to be getting close to being ranked again, and beating Marquette on New Year's Eve would really get the Jays into the conversation. The possibility of top 10 wins against Villanova, the possibility of wins over Georgetown, Marquette, St. John's, Butler, X, etc. -- that all gives you an opportunity once conference play starts to make some serious gains in the potential seeds (and, of course, also gives you a chance to lose a whole lot of games).

A team like WSU has to get itself in the best possible position before conference play starts because there will not be a single meaningful win anywhere in conference play, and any loss will be considered a really bad one. Once conference play starts, the Jays can move up substantially, while the Shockers can really only move down.

If we end up looking at a 8/9 seed, I'd still rather get undervalued and put on the 11-13 lines. Only minimally tougher first round game, but exponentially easier second round game almost every single time.
IF WSU can keep it rolling - they'll have a nice slot as the most overseeded team in the tourney

an interesting twist considering that they were able to scale the current mountain on the zags backs (the most overseeded team in recent memory)
I do hope we meet them in the tourney. Guaranteed win if we can play them 2nd round and 90% chance to beat them 1st round if history repeats itself lol.

Yes, but the only truly protected seed is #1, and Gonzaga came pretty close to blowing that last year if I recall.

Let's get the best seed available and kick ass all they way to Dallas!!

If we continue to play well and take care of business, KU's performance actually has a big impact on where we end up. For some of the people that don't understand why we cheer for KU to lose or the people who say "why can't we just hope everyone in the state does well," we actually have a clear, quantifiable, unarguable reason for it this year and KU has the same reason to root against us.

Beating the most overrated any seed is 1000 times better than losing to a properly seeded team.

Two things I wish CU fans would realize (but they never will): playing in the final four/NCG is our super bowl, not meeting a team that has never made it to the second weekend. We lost our super bowl game last year. It was a tight one, maybe you saw it.

Second, per Kenpom we had the most difficult path to the final four of any team in the ~ 10 years it has been analyzing the data.

So there is discussion on the CU forum about the possibility of our programs facing each other in the tournament - WSU the higher seed and CU the lower seed - and they still attempt to be condescending about respective places in the college basketball world? Really?

                          Blowjay rhetoric amazes me!

They better be more concerned with actually MAKING the tournament.

They're holding on to this season as long and tight as they can. It will be awhile before they'll even sniff the level of success they are likely to have this year, whatever that ends up being. They can't stand the thought of that coming to an end at the hands of Wichita State. It wouldn't be our Super Bowl by any means, but it would be rather poetic.
