When Bruce was the head sports guy there I always watched channel 12 because I knew there would be some good Shocker coverage. Since Bruce left, I have been watching them less and less. I might add that there was a reason that KAKE was Tops in the Wichita market in the 80's and KWCH followed. Martin Umansky was all about local stories coming first. Then, after he sold the station, KWCH took over because they did a better job on local stories. Now, it may be open again. Maybe KSN will have an opportunity now.Comment

You are right on. In the mid to late 70s and 80s I watched KAKE. They carried all of the Shocker road basketball games and they did a great job of covering the Shocks. After Martin retired that all changed and I switched to 12. It is wide open now and if none of the local news channels step up, there really isn't a need to watch any of them anymore (with the internet, you get faster news online anyway).Originally posted by shockmonster View PostComment

I can't watch KSN news at my house. Their picture is so bad it makes my TV cry. KAKE is a little better, but unfortunately since local HD feeds became common, KWCH has absolutely owned it. They still have the best picture, and it's not even close. I'm sure this has helped with their ratings over the past 5 years or so.Comment

A thought on ESPN coverage, KY NC is a top story. The combined records are 15-5. Neither team will be ranked ahead of WSU. WSU won a game in which the combined record is better, one team is undefeated & one team will be the highest ranked of the four. But the WSU game isn't the lead story in its market or ESPN.Phi AlphaComment
