I had a teacher in middle school that was a "jack wagon" as Hockey Shock put it. She took every chance to treat me like dog poo every time I wore my colors. That's what has made me lump KU fans with sour milk.

No shock. Your inability to separate individuals from groups is what has done that to you.

The exact same thing happened to me, shock. In fact, I almost have to thank him. If he hadn't given me so much crap abou WSU, I wouldn't have watched them beat KU in 1987.

It colored my reactions for a really long time, so I get it. I only got over it in the last few years, and only then because my best friend is a KU alum/fan and I HAD to deal with it.

This totally reminds me of that Star Trek episode where one group is half-black on the left side and half-white on the right side, and they are in an epic battle against another group that is half-white on the left side while half-black on the right side. The humans can't for the life of themselves figure out why there are racial tensions and have to "teach" the groups to "get along" by explaining that they must have had common ancestors at one point. It's a great lesson and everybody feels good that the humans (and a vulcan) have shown the racists how ignorant they are.

Whereupon in the very next show the superior humans (and a vulcan) then proceed to fly around the star system destroying every klingon that gets in their way.

I kinda don't want to say this but I guess I will...

Living in a big city with close to 5 million I have seen both KU and Wichita St. alumns in the workforce here in the Phoenix area. What became apparent over the years of my observation was that a good many of KU alumns high-tailed back to Kansas from Arizona in short time. Now you have to understand that Phoenix has hundreds of thousands of people that have moved here from all over the country. From Chicago, New York City, Philly, Boston, Detroit, Ohio, Los Angeles, etc. City folks if you will. My observation was that many a KU graduate could not hang in a large city that is made up from a bazillion people from the above type cities. Years ago I thought it was really nothing to consider....but having seen lots of Wichitans from WSU succeed here I had to ask myself why. What's the "difference"??? My only assumption was that a good majority of KU people feel "safer" with other KU people and move back to Kansas where they are comfortable.

Chicago may be the exception to the rule. They're huge number of KU alums and fans up there and I believe there is a sports bar that caters to KU fans if I'm not mistaken. Perhaps it's in the midwest helps too.

That could explain the whole Windy City reputation.

I'm neck deep in KU alums here in the Denver metro. Unlike your experience in Phoenix they seem to stay here, but I wish they'd go. There's a healthy number of Shockers here to keep me sane, though.

As far as why they're abandoning Phoenix in droves I'm not sure. My theory is that KU alums/fans seem to think Kansas City is some kind of freaking Mecca or something. Very strange, I know. Is the cost of living pretty high in Phoenix--maybe Daddy's money runs out quicker there than in KC?

There are a lot of kids from Illinois that attend KU so that probably explains why they move back to Chicagoland. Cost of living is about the same in Phoenix area as in KC and Denver. Most of the KU alumni I remember moving back to Kansas from AZ were from small towns from Kansas. Wichita St. students seem more adaptable to urban city life due to coming from living in the states largest city as opposed to Lawerence. Just my observations over the years.

I don't know, plenty of WSU students from smalll towns as well. Unless you grew up in Wichit or KC you're pretty much from a small town in KS.
