I was just thinking about this. I have a list of the teams I would prefer aren't in our bracket:

    Florida, Kansas, Virginia, Louisville.

I'm not scared of any of those teams. But those are the other best teams in the country without significant weaknesses. I would prefer not to match up against them until the Final Four.

KU should be staring at a 3 seed, at BEST, right now. I'm so tired of this garbage.
I want to piss on KU as much as the next guy, but let's take names out of this and look at things objectively:

      RPI: 6
      SOS: 7
      vs Top 25: 4-4
      vs Top 50: 5-4
      vs Top 100: 10-5
      Bad-ish Losses (100+): 1

      RPI: 4
      SOS: 2
      vs Top 25: 5-2
      vs Top 50: 8-3
      vs Top 100: 15-4
      Bad-ish Losses (100+): 1

      RPI: 1
      SOS: 1
      vs Top 25: 7-4
      vs Top 50: 12-7
      vs Top 100: 16-7
      Bad-ish Losses (100+): 0

      RPI: 8
      SOS: 83
      vs Top 25: 3-2
      vs Top 50: 8-2
      vs Top 100: 15-2
      Bad-ish Losses (100+): 1

      RPI: 14
      SOS: 40
      vs Top 25: 2-3
      vs Top 50: 4-3
      vs Top 100: 10-5
      Bad-ish Losses (100+): 0

I want to crap on Kansas, but when I look at it like that ... I'm picking Kansas for a one seed. That's their comparison to Duke, Syracuse, Virginia, and Wisconsin. Objectively, Wisconsin or Kansas gets the fourth one-seed.

Kansas is able to survive seven losses because all seven were to RPI top 50 teams. And they have nearly twice as many wins versus the top 50 as losses. Hell, Kansas has played eight more top 50 games than the team with the #2 SOS in the country, and four more top 25 games ... that GAP is bigger than the resumes of some other teams up for top three seeds.

They're behind us for a one seed. We're a better team. But they're either the fourth one seed or the first two seed.

Kansas has a historically difficult schedule according to what the selection people will look at. I think it's ridiculous, but you'd have to completely disagree with the entire selection process to not think Kansas has a strong case.

I just got into a big argument with a K-State friend about that. Ever since they stormed the court against KU, K-state fans have been super defensive about the whole court storming thing. I've told several of them that it's perfectly ok, so long as you want to be seen as small time. They don't that very much.

        • The reason KU is on the one line is because you still need 4 teams.

There's Wichita State/Florida and then everyone else right now.

              • @Rlh04d:, any reason that you didn't include Villanova in the comparison for potential #1 seeds? Sure they have holes in their resume (as do all teams outside of Florida, WSU, and maybe Arizona), but they have fewer losses than most of the others and a win over KU.

I just compared Kansas with the teams behind them on the 2 line in the new brackets I've seen.

                  Here's theirs:

                  RPI: 5
                  SOS: 35
                  vs Top 25: 1-3
                  vs Top 50: 4-3
                  vs Top 100: 12-3
                  Bad-ish Losses (100+): 0

I should have probably included road/neutral site numbers, too.

ESPN's site keeps track of all of this: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rpi/_/sort/RPI/groupId/18/teamId/2724

                  I
n other news ... Tennessee is #50 RPI on realtimerpi.com right now. Missouri State #101 to possibly give us another three top 100 wins. Indiana State looks like a top 50 is out of the realm of possibility, so ... go UNI to get to the finals and break back into the top 100!

I promise not to start a long drawn out argument here, but I am curious who the 8 teams are that you would seed ahead of KU.

                    WSU
                    Florida
                    Arizona
                    ...

                      • SDSU is a reasonable pick, but not obvious like the other 3.

It's just more of the same. They set the rules. It's now "cool" to storm the court. Those schools think they're making it cool...damn the man. If a UNC student ran out of the stands dropped a deuce on the Tarheel logo, they'd all claim it was some kind of historic ritual that only a select few know about, and it would spread to other like schools and hailed as brilliance amongst thespians.

I don't think you actually believe that. I think you just like to be controversial. You and Dougie G have a little in common. :-)

Yeah... I'm pretty sure that short of winning the lottery it doesn't get a hell of a lot better than that.
A wonderful day, indeed. Followed closely by immersing oneself in all the media reports while sipping coffee the next day!

If you are comparing two teams head to head, shouldn't "Head to Head" be factored in?
