I have serious doubts the "N" word was what was thrown down. Like bordering on the impossible. Even a Klan member is not going to yell out that word with thousands of other people surrounding him and on top of him, including within immediate earshot the 10 mostly black players on the floor 5-15 feet away.

The media members forcing this narrative here are the same type of intellectually dishonest, mouth-breathing irrationals that were defending Sherman a couple of weeks ago.

Fans often believe that they are immune from recourse for saying stupid things. I don't know what was said, but I'm going to go ahead and assume that if this guy saw Smart out on the streets, he wouldn't have the balls to say it to him then. Yeah, Smart probably should have walked away, but seriously, is he supposed to act like the 50 year old dude, or is the 50 year old dude supposed to act like a non douchebag? I'm going to say the 50 year old is a douchebag and Smart was the 20 year old kid who put him in his place. At a time when his adrenaline is at mach 6 and some donkey that's been sitting on his fat ass for 2 hours mouths off to a guy whose been busting his ass during that time. I'm gonna give Smart a pass on this one too.

You attend the games at your own risk, and I think part of that risk is getting your dumb ass pushed if you say something out of line, intended to insult a player that is standing a foot in front of you. If he would have keep his mouth shut, Smart wouldn't have pushed him.

I'm sure there's no embellishment to the story at all.

If the story was true, the media would find out about it and it would be national news. Our current DOJ would be on top of it like flies on a fresh pile of cow dung, even if it was nothing but embellishment.

I was refused service at a restaurant in Baton Rouge. Big sign posted as you walk in that they reserve the right to refuse service to any person, at any time, for any reason, and that entering the establishment acknowledges seeing it. I figured it was to help keep out those that hadn't showered in weeks, or the arrogant idiots who want everything their way.

I know the Alpha in everyone wants to say "Oh if someone called me something horribly racist or made fun of my mother or sister I'd kick their ass!" That's just stupid. First off, the odds are you wouldn't. The odds are if you are saying that you're a giant wimp and you wouldn't fight. Second, what you should do is walk away.

In real life the consequences are things like arrests, jail time, lawyer fees, fines, broken hands, broken faces, etc.
In basketball life the consequences are things like getting suspended by the NCAA.

I don't disagree one bit. But if you're a decent human being then you don't trash talk someone two feet away from you because you think that being in a public place makes you immune from some sort of retaliation. I think it's funny when student sections hastle players when they are on the road. That's part of playing on the road. I don't think it's funny when some old SOB thinks it's OK to trash talk a college student in a situation like this. This was just a little too personal. Do you think Jeff Orr would have said whatever it was that was actually said to Marcus if they ran into each other on the street? Hell no. Should Marcus have retaliated like that? Hell no. Would I have even thought about mouthing off to Marcus if put in the exact same situation? HELL NO! Yes, Marcus should be able to excercise better restraint than this and he has to understand the NBA will be much worse but fans have to use common sense as well.
