  • I have serious doubts the "N" word was what was thrown down. Like bordering on the impossible. Even a Klan member is not going to yell out that word with thousands of other people surrounding him and on top of him, including within immediate earshot the 10 mostly black players on the floor 5-15 feet away.

The media members forcing this narrative here are the same type of intellectually dishonest, mouth-breathing irrationals that were defending Sherman a couple of weeks ago.

Maybe. At the same time, I've worked and spent time in Lubbock. I've seen and heard the "N" word tossed around by Lubbock rednecks like it was nothing. It was almost commonplace. When things like that get commonplace, slipups happen.

The hospital my wife works at has bulletproof glass, metal detectors and police screening everybody for weapons. Every single day, people get ticketed for marijuana possession simply because holding pot became commonplace. They simply pull their stash out of their pocket and hand it, along with everything else in their pockets, to the cop at the metal detector. Once again, commonplace. And a $100 fine.

Having been in Lubbock, it wouldn't surprise me either way.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Smart is running with the "N" word angle, because it is his ONLY angle. Besides if Smart says that word happened, then he will essentially go unquestioned in the media. The whole approach is a win-win approach for Smart to salvage anything out of this situation.

Second-hand reports of what Smart was overheard saying soon after the incident.

            • I'm kinda in the camp that says the "N" word wasn't used. He was surrounded by too many people and as loud as it was he would really have to shout it to be heard and surely someone else would have heard him say it....he would have to be an idiot since most of Techs team is black also, wouldn't make since. I think their just trying to cover for smart, and the race card is the easy out for him....suspension is the only result. And I agree, this will cost him some money come draft. He was clearly frustrated, he is in the middle of a shooting slump and he reacted that way because they lost and he is playing under his projected level. I will take our trio of guards over him any day....If they would have won, and he was playing great he would have reacted different in my opion, like laugh in the guys face

              • Almost wish this has it's own thread. Looking for game updates and reading about two people that can't exercise self control is dragging me down.

                  • It's been discussed enough already in my opinion on ESPN.

Marcus Smart made a stupid mistake, he should be suspended and that's it. Move on. He didn't hit anyone. He didn't shoot anyone. He didn't steal anything.

I think our society is just too thin skinned and sensitive. In no way am I condoning what Smart did, but let's quit over-analyzing it.

It reminds me of when Roberto Alomar spit on an umpire. There are just so many more important things to think about and discuss than a jack-ass player shoving a jack ass fan.

                    • Oklahoma State will move to suspend Marcus Smart for the first 10 games next year. The Oklahoma State officials feel that Marcus forfeiting 30% of his games is adequate punishment even though he was provoked. Oklahoma State will issue no further comments on this subject. :)

Does that apply to the NBA?

                            • The fan is an Okie St matter. There will be conflicting stories as to what, if anything, was said or who said it. IMO, the NCAA should suspend Smart for the rest of the season.
