BJ fans think it's equivalent to CBS. It's comical.

Well at least Creighton does not have to worry about anyone seeing them getting destroyed. The viewership for FS1 is absolutely awful and FS2 is even worse.

Going into the  season, one of the biggest questions regarding the Big East was how much of an impact leaving ESPN for FOX Sports would have on the TV ratings. Getting a wide audience is a crucial …

Thanks for the link. I wondered how the tv ratings were doing for FS1. Terrible is the only way to describe them. It appears from that chart that the New Big East games on espnU are drawing about double the audience of FS1 nBE games. And it appears absolutely no one is watching FS2. I wonder if Fox Sports is going to try and renegoiate that $3.2 million dollar per year per team deal with the nBE.

Ah, but you forget: now that the Jayboys have been promoted to the Big East, they're no longer "at this level." And indeed they aren't -- WSU is #5 and probably rising; Creighton is #19 or 20 and heading down. Definitely not the same level.

                • I think your pimple is formally known as a "Creighton Brain Tumor."

Man you are right. I found this great web site that has the ratings for most of the games on cable. It is called Son of the Bronx: http://sonofthebronx.blogspot.com/search/label/cable

Based on his numbers this is how few people have watched the 8 Cu games that have been on FS1 and FS2 this year: UMKC- 58,000, UNL- 66,000, Arkansas-Pine Bluff- 3,000 (that is not a typo) California- 59,000, Chicago St.- 43,000, Marquette (on new year's eve)- 100,000 (the only game to actually crack 0 on the official nielsen ratings at .1), Seton Hall- 46,000, and De Paul 43,000. If you add up the total from all 8 games it only totals 415,000 (less than than the viewership of just one WSU game one the deuce).

By comparison, just the 4 WSU games that I found ratings for on his site total 1.5 million viewers: WKU at midnight on a Monday night -265,000, BYU on a Tuesday night at 9pm 502,000 (the 9th highest rated show on espn2 that week), Tennessee- 562,000 (the 5th highest rated show on espn2 that week) and Alabama on a Tuesday night on espnU -157,000. It appears that even games on the U are worth about triple the ratings of FS1. While games on the deuce are worth about 5 to 10 times the audience of the new big east on FS1.

The ratings for the WSU-Indy State game weren't available yet. . And I couldn't find any ratings for the two WSU games on CBS SportsNet (Tulsa and St. Louis).

To be fair to the Bluejays they did have 2 games on the deuce this year on one on espnU, but even those 3 games didn't come close to the WSU ratings on the deuce: Cu-Arizona St on espn2- 278,000, Cu-San Diego St. on espn2- 370,000, and Cu-GWU on espnU - 74,000.

                      • As a follow up. If you add up the total viewership from all 11 Cu games that he had ratings for (8 on FS1 or FS2 and the 3 on the espn family) it only comes to 1.140 million, as a comparison the total viewership from just the 4 WSU games that we have ratings for (doesn't include games on Fox Sports Net or CBS Sports Net or KS 22 or the Indy St game on espn2) it totals 1.486 million. So much for all of this great added exposure that Cu was going to get this year from their new TV package.

That is an interesting data set.

Just goes to show nobody cares about that conference because it's not the same. All of the weight that truly made the Big East has left. And the only two mainstays that had any chance of keeping it respectable this year, Georgetown and Marquette, are both mediocre to awful.

This Mickey Mouse Channel is just what it is - a freaking cartoon - that nobody knows about or is watching. I'm sure the Disney Channel gets higher ratings at midnight than FS1 gets in primetime.

                            • If you want to go after ESPN, your best bet is to follow Turner Broadcasting's model. They struck a deal to get a couple of NBA games every week, and they have a slice of the NBA playoffs and a big chunk of March Madness. Running NBA games against SportsCenter reruns at 8 PM gives you a chance in primetime. Trying to take on ESPN's 24-hour monopoly is a recipe for disaster. That's why, at 1 PM, the Turner networks are showing reruns of Law & Order and House, rather than trying to carve into a daytime market where the top-4 read: 1. ESPN 2. ESPN2 3. ESPNNews 4. ESPNU.

Someone will get fired over FS1. Fox has broken into new markets before by offering better content, or by exploiting market dificiencies, not by offering a watered-down, cheaper version of what's already out there. If you're trying to get exposure for a college BBall team, you're better off taking ESPN's crums than signing up for any package with FOX... Or NBCSports or CBSSports for that matter. At least CBS and NBC aren't spening millions marketing their crap sports channels...
