No kidding. HCGM is a coach who would probably be getting talked about by the blue bloods when their coaches retire. He is doing the things that get you huge jobs. Those things are sustained success regardless of players, proven system, fundamentals and team play (not a gimmicky offense or defense and little reliance on one star player), school loyalty, ability to hype up a fan base (marketing)....etc.
The man is the real deal. Its becoming clear to everyone. Tennessee fans being willing to admit that it won't happen because its a lateral move at best makes them smarter than some of the out-of-touch wildcats we saw comments from. I'd say the only thing Marshall didn't really have was an abundance of conference titles and similar accolades. The Final 4 probably took care of that. Oh yeah, and the next few years will probably take care of the titles.
Where Tennessee may have gone wrong was hiring a coach with no real track record. His track record was one stint riding the fabulous play of an MVC star (Weems), and the program evaporated when Weems left.
I haven't followed closely enough, DSB, but Barnes is probably already getting close to saving his job? Between the non-con, the win over a ranked team last night, and a .500+ finish in the B12, I'd think he's fine.
Boy was I wrong about Texas. I had them pegged for about 2-8. Wish we had played them instead of DePaul. Thanks, CBE.
UCLA (9-1) at #8 Duke (8-2) today. Anybody else thinking we might claim another spot?
ILL St. (5-5) is hosting Tennessee St. (1-10). Should be a solid home loss for the Birds :) At this point, I'm almost rooting for Tennessee St. because of how hilarious it would be. I mean, the MVC strength is already shot.

The hardest job in the MVC office is the guy who has to write those weekly reports. I'm sure he goes to work thinking, Damn how can I make this pile of crap sound positive. Freeking Northern Illinois.

I that sphere of the hardest job might extend well beyond the MVC office!
I predicted this team to have 5 losses at the onset of the year. I figured there was a strong probability that we would lose two of BYU/Texas, St. Louis, Alabama, Tennessee. I also thought we would lose three conference games (and we still might). Now that the meat of our non-con is over, I feel like this is a two loss team heading into St. Louis in March. No prediction on who those might be as I don't see any losses, just probabilities.
