Shockers maintain their cool. Very proud of their demeanor in spite of some trying situations. Obviously they did not play their best, but good teams find a way when they are not at their best. Thanks for another great, entertaining evening. FVV is just flat cool, and RB is Rooster- as in Cogburn.

0 field goals allowed in the finals 8:35 of the game. Also held BYU to over 30 points less than their season average, and that is with the new rules that sent a parade of BYU players to the line. We aren't too shabby on defense."Cotton scared me - I left him alone." - B4MSU (Bear Nation poster) in reference to heckling players

Glad we were able to get a quality win tonight. BYU is gonna win a lot of games. However, I'm not that impressed with BYU's late-game ugliness, like intentionally swiping at Baker with an elbow to the head, not once, but TWICE. And then Rose went off the deep end for God-knows-what. Left a little bit of a sour taste in my mouth for a university founded and named after a religious figure.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

That was a good game for us. Took a high scoring team and brought them into the dirt. We ended up just being tougher and nastier. BYU did not score a SINGLE field goal in the last 8:35 of that game. The guy that went off for 18 in the first half had to settle for a measly 3 FTs in the second (and that in the last 4:35).
We played sloppy. We couldn't make shots. They were getting everything they could from the officials, FTs on every possession and horrible calls throughout the night. Carter got WAY too many touches, and we shot WAY too many bad 3s. And we still won by 13. How? MTXE. An acronym personified by Ron Baker, Tekele Cotton, and Fred Van Vleet. Whenever we needed a loose ball Shocker bodies were on the floor. Whenever a rebound was tipped Cotton would get dirty and get the ball. And Fred "Ice Vater" Van Vleet knew when to put the team on his back.
This game should have been a scare. We got kicked early, falling behind 19-6. But now that the game is over, I'm a lot more confident than before. Our guys can play horrible and win against a good team by sheer mental effort, and force them to play in the trenches with us. The score didn't show it for most of the night, but we mentally dominated this game by making BYU play the way we wanted even when we couldn't do what we needed to on the other end. We can play our worst ball, and win. Ron Baker can have his worst shooting night and score a career high. This team has not jelled yet, but they are scary even now.

Great news---We are 7-0. Guess what? Baker and FVV--Sophs--Cotton--JR--23 for Baker after being hit like a speed bag and elbowed in the face like roller derby king, and knocked down like Jake White and called for blocking like Jake White. FVV has ice wata in his veins. Cotton hustled like there was no tomorrow on both sides of the court. This team will hit on all cylinders when we better establish our bigs as the days roll by.Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

Folks we just saw a March level (intensity wise) game in November. Quite obvious both teams were leaving it all on the floor. So much so that frustrations got the best of of BYU. The shots won't always fall. When they don't how do you overcome? You play f-in angry! That was as angry as I have seen these boys play. Man their toughness is through the roof. Not a perfect game, but a DAMN fine effort by the good guys! I go to sleep tonight much more confident. These boys will overcome MOST obstacles that come their way. This win will pay dividends. Way to be Shox!!!!"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!
