    MVC Overall Statistics

I know it's early and the small sample size principle is in force. But click the link above and scroll down to the individual stats section. Pay particular note to the "class" column in these categories:

    FG%
    Assists
    Steals
    3FG%
    3FG Made
    A/TO ratio
    Min Played

I don't think I've ever seen so many non-seniors, especially SO and FR, in the top 10 at any point in a season. It really bodes well for the next few years.

However, it also seems like the Valley is back to being an extreme guard-heavy league. Absent are the Hall, Carmichael and Echinique types. There just aren't many post players in the top 10 of any "big man" categories (scoring/rebounding/blocks), where they should flourish. Basically, you have Early (really more of a wing), Pickett, Mockevicius and McCollough in multiple scoring/rebounding/blocks categories. Outside of them, there isn't much, and two of those are gone after this year.

Perhaps that's an indication our struggles in the post won't be as glaring during conference games. I think that also means that the Shocks are in good shape for the next few years with Morris, Kelly and Wamukota coming in.

A few other things to note there.

      Assists:
      1. Fred Van Vleet
      2. Jake Odum
      3. Ron Baker

      Assist/Turnover Ratio:
      1. Ron Baker
      2. Fred Van Vleet

Illinois State misses a lot of shots. The best defense by field goal percentage would be whichever team plays Illinois State.

It seems that a discussion of Stats is as close as I can come to a topic where this might be appropriate.

It seems that that this year I'm noticing more of what EO did last year than I noticed what EO was actually doing last year.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Well said. Offensively, not so much, but defensively...

My favorite are the individual blocked shots leaders. Ron Baker is not only leading our team in blocks, but is 4th in the Valley with 1.5. Lufile and Coleby are tied for 7th place with 1.3.

Early is quietly exceeding last year's numbers but I'm troubled by his "disappearance" during games. For a kid who has NBA aspirations, he should have been dominating and taking over the first four games. That hasn't happened yet. In fact, none of the bigs have really had stand out games at this juncture of the season. Still early, I know, but I don't like the fact that we are getting beat to the boards far too often and the lack of real production out of that area of the court. Although, it does seem that D Carter has finally listened to his coach and has figured out there are four other guys on the court with him.

Often when a guy takes over a game, Bluz, it's because his teammates run everything through him. That doesn't happen very often with WSU in the Greggball era. Fred VV and Baker will get him the ball if it makes sense to do so -- we've seen that already in the assist numbers, but they won't force it (hence the excellent A/TO ratios) -- but this is a team with lots of options and weapons.

Part of it has been his own doing. Early leads the Shockers in turnovers.

There is another team on the court, and they are very aware of Mr. Early. Baker and Early are getting a lot of defensive attention. Until we get more production from the post, other teams will concentrate front court D on Early.
