  • Good thing there are 2 halves...

Here are some Top 25 games from around the NCAA and the scores at half (11/11 - 11/17):

    Belmont 41
    (12)North Carolina 34

    (19)UConn 37
    Boston U 32

    Indiana State 40
    (21)Notre Dame 30

    (7)Michigan 34
    Iowa State 35

    AR-Little Rock 27
    (11)Florida 27

    Winthrop 41
    (14)VCU 45

    (25)Virgina 29
    Davidson 27

    Columbia 26
    (2) Michigan State 22

    Holy Cross 25
    (12)North Carolina 25

    W Carolina 39
    (18) Oregon 41

Of these games that were close at half, only two games were won by the unranked team. Belmont, who is very good, beat UNC. And Iowa State beat Michigan, although that is not a major upset (Iowa State was at home). I guess you can draw your own conclusions from this (if any), but I just thought I would offer some food for thought.

edit: Indiana State won as well

Iowa State wasn't even an upset if you go by betting lines. They were favored in that game by a point.

Texas Tech is going to be lucky to beat Texas Southern.

It's not just us, every team is going to have athletes now that are able to defend - for the most part - the best players on your team for a period of time. The problem is that the better teams are deeper and more skilled, and eventually they wear out the other teams players. You can't "out-athlete" anyone at the division 1 level anymore.

Well, Head, if you're saying the Shocks aren't the only team who has struggled some in the first half, you're obviously right. But the problem, to the extent it is one (we'll have to see after the schedule normalizes a bit), isn't so much that it's happened as that it needs not to become a habit, especially as the quality of opponents takes a major step up in the next few weeks.
