  • It's a LONG season. It's still gonna be a good one I feel. I was as frustrated as any at the game today. But there were some good things also. I am definately not ready to change my prediction for the season yet. I felt we would be 4-0 right now and we are. A lot they can still get better at, which excites me even more!

Perhaps the team hasn't adjusted to having the target on their back yet. But I don't think some fans have adjusted to that yet either.

    • I was at a loss for words at halftime. I kinda just stared at the court for 15 minutes in a haze. That's the THIRD game in a row we've started out like poo in a game. One game is a fling. Three is a trend IMO. Our interior defense was AWFUL. We've seen more freaking layups in these last 3 games by the opposition than by everybody we played last year it seems. Rebounding was improved but still ridiculous by WSU standards. I thought Coleby was really getting after it in the second half.

Cotton was a STUD and was knocking em down with ease. Hope that continues against some real competition though. Wiggins was a huge bright spot. His minutes need to multiply.

FVV was not good. He forced garbage and was just not there. He needs to fix that up quick. Ron was short on a lot of his shots. I guess that's what happens when you play 35 minutes a game, with 4 games in 8 days. Cle scored in spurts, but still wasn't there IMO. I think he just needs to forget about all of the All-American talk and settle down a bit.

I'm really not looking forward to our road swing. The next 4 are away from Koch and against MUCH better competition. Who knows? Maybe they'll play better on the road. Marshall teams seem to do that. But I'm a little nervous. Wednesday's game will give us a big indicator at where we're at right now. Tulsa isn't St. Louis or Bama, but there sure as hell a step up from W&M and Tennessee State. I hope we don't blow all of this preseason love out the window. As it stands, we are not a Top 25 type team. I realize everybody is gonna get up for us and gets up for our atmosphere as its likely Tennessee State won't see that many people watching them play combined for the rest of the year. But damn.

And don't get me started on the free throw shooting. Especially in the first half. That'll lose you A LOT of games this year.

      • I wouldn't call Tulsa much better competition just yet.

And get used to teams driving us. They know it will draw fouls. Otherwise they wouldn't be trying to do it so often.

Tulsa isn't better than Tennessee Freaking State or William and Freaking Mary? If that's the case, then we should win by double-digits Wednesday night.

They will be better, but only marginally. I don't think they will be MUCH better. We will win by 12 or so I think

            • It's on the road. This makes it more difficult.

              • Lets all take three deep breaths. Marshall's mantra in recent years is being road warriors. The test is at our front door. I am confident we will respond.

                • In the past we were good on the road, but in the past we were also a good rebounding/defensive team. This is not last year. Maybe the team needs to be reminded that they haven't won anything yet, and that #16 rating was earned by last years team. Maybe we need to hire Greg Robinson to rub a teddy bear in our big men's faces, because they are playing soft. Put a f****** body on someone and rip the ball with some aggression. Who's team is this? Last I checked HCGM had teams that could board.

                  • It seems to me a little bit more discipline on defense will improve the rebounding by our bigs. It lookslike 2-3 guys are going for the shot block and losing their defensive rebounding position. Staying put, just a little bit, can lead to better rebounding position and more rebounds.

man, based on some of the crazy responses on here you would think we were getting outrebounded every game. Last I checked we won the boards by 8-9. And I think the average margin last year was 7.5. On another note we are killing it in the turnover department, and we didn't always do that last year.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

We're under 10 turnovers a game (39). Just think if Early (10) could cut down on his turnovers.

The teams we have played are garbage. Remember, everything is framed with "crazy" expectations this season. So, if we look slightly deficient against garbage competition is certain areas, fans such as myself, will extrapolate that to mean we will be majorly deficient in that area against good competition. So while I may be overreacting, rest assured that Gregg is pissed about our rebounding and will be working to correct it.

                              • By the end of this year we will have our 5th straight 25+ win season.
We can and should play better than we have.
My money's on Gregg getting better performance.

After all, we're not West Virginia football. They must really suck.
