  • 2013-2014 Shocker Men's Prouty Ratings

Here is the formula used to get the Prouty Ratings.

Prouty Rating = Offensive Efficiency + Total Offense + Possessions Gained + Win Rating

    Offensive Efficiency = [TP / (FGA*2 + FTA)] *0.3
    Total Offense = [(TP + A*2 - TO) / Player MIN] *0.3
    Possessions Gained = [(REB + S + BLK/2 - PF) / Player MIN] *0.3
    Win Rating = [Player MIN / (Team MIN / 5) * (Wins / Game #)] *0.1
    [30% weighted]

Before Evan scored his first bucket with less than 3 minutes left, I commented to my friend that Evan Wessel may be the MOST VALUABLEzero-point player in the NCAA. The D+ is totally irrational for his floor play.

I agree with your post. That said, for a player who is expected to be very good from the 3, the 1 made over the last 2 games was a beautiful shot. The 5 missed were butt ugly. I not sure when I last saw someone put that many stinkers in back to back games. I hope he finds his old form soon.

Agree, but I believe last year he had not shot well a game or two. In fact, I was extremely surprised to see him leading the team in #-pt percentage, because I really never had confidence in his shot. So, we'll have to wait and see. To me, it looks like he is rushing right now.

It appears to me as well that Evan is rushing his shot to the point he doesn't even have his feet square. Watching him before the game he made 3 after 3. Maybe the driving layups he got late in the game will put him back on track.

When two numbers love each other very much, they have a special hug called an algorithm.
Nine months later you get statistics.
Statistics then spend the rest of their days trying to figure out the meaning of life.

I was looking at some of the other sites that use the Prouty Ratings. Bradley's site uses weighted values of 30/30/30/10 for the four formulas. Putting less weight on the WINS Efficiency tends to keep average players from looking like superstars because they're on a team that has few, if any losses.

Formulas were updated in the original post.

I'll add a couple of columns to the ratings of the first game to show how they changed for each player and the team.

Prouty Ratings, in a nutshell, basically shows how you stack up with players on your own team, not necessarily how you would do against another team that had similar Prouty Ratings for their players.

It is a simple offensive efficiency rating. Does not account for the defensive side of the ball. It allows you to see who were your best offensive players of the game, and will show you who are consistent/inconsistent.

The ratings for the first game have been updated. Starting with the next game, I'll only show the adjusted ratings.

Wessel took the biggest hit in the first game, losing 0.072 in his rating.

Defense is included in the Possessions Gained formula, which includes these defensive stats: rebounds (although offensive and defensive rebounds aren't split out), steals, blocks, personal fouls (again, offensive and defensive fouls aren't split out).
