Find me another facility with the design-by-committee interior layout/design that we have. You won't, and there is a reason for that. Due to the huge wall of suites and lack of full upper concourse, IBA's capacity for most concerts (end stage) is shockingly below basically all other similar-sized yet more traditionally designed arenas. Couple the goofy, amateurish IBA design with it's abnormally low ceiling height, and you basically have the most underwhelming mid-sized arena built in the current era.

Food for thought: BOK Center in Tulsa and the brand new Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln would both be considered good comparables to IBA, out of the arenas built in this part of the country in recent history. Both were built with less money in 2013 dollars, and both have larger capacities than IBA. They are also both much more visually impressive inside and out over IBA - both in design and by sheer volume (remember IBA's squatty roof). Do some google image searches of BOK and Pinnacle and tell me if you honestly don't feel like the Sedgwick County taxpayer got ripped off with IBA.

On a personal note, the way that Waterwalk and IBA have been handled, designed, and implemented by the City of Wichita has basically taken me from the side of the argument that is supportive of public dollars in downtown redevelopment, to the complete opposite. I now expect to be terrifically underwhelmed by anything our City or County government spearheads, and will not support tax dollars to be used, because I know they will screw it up massively.

I agree. I think Lincolns arena sits a few hundred more BUT they have seats where we have the suits and they just don't have any upper level end seats. Perfect for end stage concerts where they essentially loose very little seating capacity AND it looks like it is possible to expand their upper level seats in the future. Whereas at Intrust I believe there is no room for expansion unless it would be possible to put seats above the suites?

IBA's configuration sucks but compared to the Coliseum, it's better. The Coliseum was a shithole.

They really effed up with the whole building. The County should have had no say in how it was built. That's where the problem was.

Koch Arena’s $1.8 million Daktronics scoreboard is also a new toy. Fans found the score and statistics difficult to read in the first game, so WSU removed a grid and enlarged the numbers. It added timeouts.

The old scoreboard featured digital clocks on all four sides. The new one does not. Brewer said digital clocks for arena are on order, their location still to be determined.

“Even I get tired of pulling out my phone,” he said.

WSU’s use of the scoreboard will continue to change. Brewer wants more updates on Missouri Valley Conference and top 25 scores on the screen. A video interview of coaches at halftime is a possibility.

As someone with legitimate, diagnosed ADD, that is EXACTLY what I thought. LOL.

Probably because I have caught myself doing the same thing… before the new scoreboard…

I don't really have a complaint about the scoreboard ,, My beef is with the lousy fricken Sprint reception in and around the arena,, with all the new #watchus , #playangry ect ect it would be nice to be able to get data service inside the arena!! maybe they could look into better Guest wifi service for attendants of the games ???
From the road I listen (Tune In radio) at home I watch ( season Ticks )

You realize a lot of that could be caused by too many people competing for the same cell towers? Maybe they need to install a cell tower on top of the scoreboard.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

What about a chocolate fountain? Fans could pick up skewers, bananas, cream puffs, strawberries and marshmallows at concession stands. Then they could dip them in the chocolate fountain attached to the center hung scoreboard.

That would be an awesomely huge chocolate fountain!

I would buy that if not for the fact that in Surgis SD in August with 500,00 of my closest friends I get better service from Sprint in a town with a normal population of 5,000 ,,, just sayin lol

See, they truck in portable cell towers for events like Sturgis. They even truck in portable cell towers to Memorial Stadium in Lincoln during football season.

My solution is to affix a cell tower, chocolate fountain and multiple timezone clock to the center hung scoreboard at Koch Arena. Everybody would be happy.

                              • The chocolate fountain would forever change the perception of what is a great, 360 degree dunk.
