I am pretty concerned with the rule change. I know it affects everyone, but for physical teams like WSU it will really hinder what they are trying to do. I am afraid we will see a lot of players foul out or really let up on defense when they get in foul trouble. Plus I think WSU puts a lot of people on the line early.

I really hate seeing refs blowing whistles all game and trying to steal the show. It totally kills the flow of the game and can make games 2 1/2 hours long.

It seems like offenses are really getting the benefits in college basketball now. I dunno how many times you see wild, out-of-control players bang there way into a guy, holding straight-up, and just standing there, only to see a foul called and the out-of-control garbage gets rewarded at the foul line. That is annoying. And now you're going to have it to where every fingertip touch is going to be a foul call as well? It seems like defenses can't catch breaks and everything benefits the offensive player. Let's not make this thing the NBA.

Shockers were fouling machines without the rule change. Maybe it wont affect our play as much....

Imagine what this is going to do to VCU and the havoc defense.

Do we know if Derail participated in the scrimmage?
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

Me too. That particular position could make or break the season I would think. It's great if he had a standout performance or at least a notable one. I still have high hopes for him and nick.

With all this foul talk, it's really nice knowing we are going to be the team with ridiculous potential on offense. We may have our share of adjustment troubles to the foul thing, but the other team has to figure out how to contain Cle, Nick, Ron, Fred, Derail....and this list goes on... without fouling

There's no doubt that the Shocks are a physical team, but it seems like if they're actually paying more attention to fouls, it's way more likely to affect a team like Evansville, that grabs grabs grabs because they don't have the athleticism to keep up with a team like WSU and they're trying to muck things up.

It's not like WSU's defense is good because we're getting away with a bunch of fouls that aren't getting called. It'll certainly increase the fouls called on everyone, but it seems like the total percentage increase is likely to be way higher with an Evansville than with a WSU.

                    Guess we'll find out...

I personally don't think we do a lot of hand checking in the half court. I think Marshall's systems is predicated on setting solid screens and beating people to the spot. Where we get in trouble is when our rotation is slow. Jake White was a perfect example of this when he would rotate late and try to take a charge. I am sure it happened but I can't ever remember Jake actually getting a charge called. Now when we press this new found emphasis on hand checking could be a problem.

It looks like a long bench is going to be a real plus this year.

I think we've got that covered.

I'll have to watch the NCAA games again to make sure, but as I recall, the Shox were never a heavy hand-checking team compared to several other Valley teams. Weber's SIU teams were the best hand-checking teams EVER!

We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

The refs will not call more fouls than they have in years past....

                            - We are much better equipped to bust the zone than we have been in years past.
                            - We're not a "hand-checking" team.
                            - We don't fake the flop.

                            I'm not worried.

I believe it is more than just hand checking. It is bumping people off routes...etc and using body. That stuff we have done. It's gonna affect us. Just gonna have to wait and see how much. One thing is for sure you will see a lot more cutting to the basket by teams. Athleticism will be key. We have that covered. I'm not worried about Valley play as much. If it affects us negatively it will be non-con and post season IMHO. Against teams that are as athletic and long as the Shox.

But they have to guard us too. I think we have enough ball handlers and athleticism that we can cut to the basket as good as anyone else and draw fouls or get easy buckets. At least that is my hope. As long as everyone doesn't foul out first lol. I'm just ready to get this season going!!!!!

We called 57 in our 2.5 hour scrimmage this PM. They will adjust or they will sit.

                                That is all.
Above all, make the right call.
