Do you think that we will see more teams playing zone defense due to the rule change?

      • No doubt about it, guys. That ESPNU coverage was garbage. I hope Marshall and the rest of the team were able to look over the great lengths ESPNU went to to cover us.

Don't know if stats were kept for the scrimmage, but Baker had to have had a dozen rebounds.

He had several, but I'm doubtful Ron pulled off the Baker's dozen.

I know HCGM will not be in that camp. Although, if teams are getting into foul trouble early, they may be forced to play more zone. I don't like the rule change because I think it will only result in disrupting the flow of the game. The less whistles the better, IMO.

              • Questions and thoughts on Madness

First and foremost, was disappointed that Green was unable to participate.

I thought that the gals were going to have a 3-point shooting contest...oh well.

Was real disappointed that Hall, Armstead, Williams and Orukpe were not mentioned during presentation of rings? Coleby did not get a ring, is that an NCAA restriction? I believe he was on scholarship and was able to practice, but not able to play (or travel?). He was as much a part of the team as Green, for example, who red-shirted this year. I think he should have received a ring, too.

Fred, Baker & Early certainly whet the appetite for the season to begin. There are glimpses in others, too. We know Cotton will do his thing. So will Wessell. Coleby and Carter showed to be athletic and need to contribute in a big way. Lufile seems to be improved, having the game slow down for him. Holland is going to be exciting, just don't know when. He seemed to park in the corner on offense, staying out of the way. Wiggins made everything in warm-up -- hope he becomes a factor this year. Morris has the body -- hope the light turns on sooner than later. Bush and Simon will definitely help the squad and Bush will probably see a few minutes.

Scoreboard is terrific. Wish I had been able to attend open practice and tour the locker room, but the video tour with 3G shows its awesomeness.

Oh, yes, Fred alley-oop(s) to Coleby are something to behold.

                • I don't know the rules, but Coleby was not eligible to particpate last year due to the transfer year whereas Green was able but took a redshirt. Technically, Green could've played in a game if called upon and also traveled with the team. Not exactly apples to apples comparison.

This is why he didn't get a ring. Dan be the man.

I had a twitter discussion with some "experts" that supported this rule change because they think that it will result in more offense and points scored. My contention was the same as yours that it will result in more whistles. Their response was that after players adjust then we will see the increased offensive production.

I have been vocally supportive of most everything coming out of the administrative offices lately, but I too was disappointed at the above omissions. How hard would it have been to get those guys to do even a quick video on their phones?

"Hey ShockerNation, sorry I couldn't be there but thanks for all your support during our run to the Final Four." Just one idea, and if they couldn't get that done, just a picture with Gregg saying a few words would have been nice.

This program has been hitting on all cylinders of late so I'll just chalk this one up to a bad spark plug somewhere.

Kenpom argued that referees have called the same number of fouls per game for decades. I doubt any rule change will actually increase the number of fouls called. Players will get called for a few fouls earlier in the shot clock and that is probably the extent of the impact to the flow of the game. I have my doubts about how effectively the rule will be inforced.

They still have a chance to ‘atone’ themselves when the Final Four banner is dropped…

Not the same...they must have either had the rings there or had recently "delivered" them to the guys. Horrendous oversight.

                              • That was in interesting omission especially in light of the fact that the women had all 6 of last year's seniors back and introduced (Jessica Diamond, Jaz Gordon, Chynna Turner, Bugg Jones, Darice Fountaine and Nicole Wells) for their MVC Championship and NCAA Appearance Banner which, with all due respect to the Ladies, pales in comparison to a Final Four ring although they were program firsts for the Ladies.

Whether that says anything about where the decision-making responsibility lies on the men's side I don't know.
