  • Shocks Focusing More on Flexibility in Training

I've always believed more emphasis should be placed on flexibility and if you have ever done yoga exercises, especially power yoga, you know that it is not a piece of cake. (See Ron Baker's quote).

I hope this becomes a staple of the Shocks training regime for all of our sports.

Yoga is a great thing for this team. It's not near as easy as some think. I've tried Yoga when doing P90X and it's some tough stuff. But it does help keep you more limber and still builds strength and muscle control.

Second time this week I have heard about a sports team using Yoga as part of their training and conditioning. I was half listening to a sports show a few days ago when it was mentioned that a team was using "hot" yoga, whatever that is.

Great focus. Flexibility enhances fine motor skills and more importantly, reduces injuries. Unfortunately for me, my stomach is too flexible and I'm embarrassed to take my shirt off.

I think yoga for Division 1 athletes in the 18 to 25 year range is a complete waste of time.

I used to ride frequently in the Ms150. The last year I was serious about it (I always was back in Houston with a beer in hand in my favorite bar by three and I rode the bus).

Bowing to my advancing age (over 50 at the time) my health club manager recommended yoga for every body.

It definitely helped me. I was able to ride over 4000 miles that year. It wasn't my best year, but it was my most pain-free.

Hopefully it work as well for the Shocks.

I think yoga would be a great course of action for the entire SN membership especially if it makes you more flexible.

Yoga is great for the core also.
