1. Lowery was handed a pre-built, turn-key program and burnt it to the ground in three years because, 1) he can't coach, 2) didn't know what recruits would fit into his program, which led to, 3) not being able to keep a stable roster. He basically failed at just about every level a D1 coach can fail on. Marshall has built two programs, recruited the right players, and coached them to a Final Four.
2. Altman not only flirted with leaving, he actually left for a day. And he found the ceiling for what HE could to at Creighton. And that ceiling was the round of 32. He simply couldn't get CU any higher. Two words to invalidate this analogy: Final Four.
3. Larranaga and GMU regressed to their mean very quickly. He was going to be a lifer there if not for Miami wanting nothing to with Frank Martin and other coaches wanting nothing to do with Miami. That said, Larranage coached up the Hurricanes.
About the only factor I partially agree with is the effect of having a poor recruiting class. But there is still some context to consider: 1. Marshall's juco recruiting can quickly remedy a poor year on the recruiting trail and 2. If it follows up a banner recruiting class, that's to be expected and not something to worry about.
It's nice to get publicity outside the Wichita market, but when that publicity comes out of the mouths of the ignorant, I'm not sure if the net effect is positive or negative.
