  • Anyone else mildly irritated by Tad's Locker Room ad?

....late in the asd it talks about"ksu making another bowl game, and ku winning the conference title and a deep run into March, and EVEN WSU making the Final Four...."

the "and even" got me...but I've always been sensitive and on the lookout for slights....

I hear ya. I thought the same thing when I first heard that commercial. I tack it up to poor writing.

I do like to imagine an alternative version where he says "ku winning the conference title then choking early in March." Only kidding ku fans. But that commercial is annoying.

I haven't heard the ad, and there's no doubt that some posters on here -- not just you -- are always on the lookout for slights.

But the thing that's really odd about the passage you quoted is that of the three accomplishments the one that's most noteworthy, hands down, is the Final Four. Now, if the writer had wanted to curry favor with Chickenhawk fans and say something about their ninth straight conference championship, it might be a different story. The Big 12 Minus However Many is a very respectable basketball conference, and winning it year after year after year is a real achievement, the sort of thing for which a performer would get a Lifetime Oscar or something like it, and rightly so. But that's not what was said here -- this was about the award for best Kansas D-1 basketball or football accomplishment of 2012-13, and out of that group of nominees WSU is an easy winner. So why treat it like an afterthought unless the writer is just so used to condescending that it came out that way automatically?

Why is this in the basketball forum? Why is everyone so sensitive and get hung up over such small, insignificant words?

Maybe you should get together with Aargh and discuss "...choking the chicken..." some more?

Tad is a huge Shocker fan and supporter of the university - get over it.

I'm not one who likes to delve into the "true Shocker fan" mentality, but I have always felt that if you are going (to choose) to be a Shocker fan, you need three things.

              1) Thick skin
              2) High self esteem
              3) The ability (and mental capacity) to embrace the underdog role

My spouse is one of those people (she's not a Shocker fan) who is always looking for a slight/fight. It is a huge wast of time, brain cells, and life..

I'm proud to be a Shocker - win or lose. I enjoy being in the underdog role; being the hunter instead of the hunted. Don't get me wrong. Being the hunted is okay too (and fun). But the ability to thrive in either role is what makes being a Shocker special (compared to the other schools in the State). Not just anyone has the mental toughness to be a Shocker. Anyone can jump on the other bandwagons...

I know many on here are always looking for respect and validation from the outside world.. I am just looking for the opportunity to perform. It is only when we are denied that, that I am looking for a fight...

The guy that owns Tad's (don't think his name is actually Tad) is a WSU alum and supporter. Throughout most of the year, the original and main room of his shop is mostly dedicated to WSU, whereas KU and K-State stuff is relegated to a smaller side room. When WSU does something significant he runs with it and schedules events and appearances. When KU and K-State do something significant he just does t-shirts.

If I had to guess about the order of his radio ad I'd assume that as the WSU F4 is the most significant single athletic achievement of the 3 schools this year, that leaving the mention of such until the end is a compliment to it's magnitude. You never start with the biggest accomplishment and go down, you lead with the more forgettable items and build up to the more important stuff.

No. I haven't. I want her as far away from the screen as possible. Years ago, I was watching the Chiefs in a playoff game. The chiefs were comfortably ahead in the 4th quarter, and she shows up. Chiefs lose. It started falling as part as soon as she showed up. Her dad was a Jayhawk fan. Last year, I am watching KU play Michigan in the tourney. KU led the whole time. My wife sat down and started watching in the final minutes bragging about KU. As soon as her butt hit the sofa, the KU collapse was on (which I enjoyed immensely). When the Shox are on, I am in my office with the door locked!!!

When I first heard the ad it did bother me too. Not enough for me to get mad about it because I know the owner of Tads (Tad Snarenberger) is a WSU alum and a big Shocker fan. I am not sure why they added the "even".

But then I heard it a few more times and I think they were saying that WSU making the final 4 was such a big deal in Wichita and even though final 4 stuff was available everywhere most people still bought their final 4 stuff at Tads. If you listen to it in that context then it really does make the WSU final 4 the biggest deal.

                            Very well said, Joco.

Being a Yankee, ND, and even a KU fan, etc., must be easy. I wouldn't know.

I don't care what school it is (except for one of our opponents), I always pull for the underdog. And I am most happy that no longer applies, whatsoever, to our situation.

There is nothing like being a Shocker fan. Shocker fans are loyal and certainly have proven it in spades through the bad years. But let a little diversity like losing enter into the picture and look what happens to these band wagon fans of the teams listed above.

And today and for years to come, it is so especially sweet now that GM has once again raised our BB program to the high levels previously achieved in previous years.

Hail to you, our outstanding fans, our truly outstanding coach, his staff, and to each and every one of our past and present outstanding players who have taken us to the level we are at today, and to all our future Shockers who will maintain and raise that level in the very near future.
