Alumni band vs best of black and yellow bands? How about a mixed scrimmage, men and women? How about the baseball team throwing stuff to the crowd?

I don't know, but they need to interject some fresh ideas into it,. It has been a 'letdown' the last few years. It hasn't been big enough, flashy enough, and loud enough. Needs some pizazz!!!

Might I suggest the softball team and volleyball team to show off our better side? It is scheduled after a volleyball match, so I expect a LARGE crowd. LARGE.

Shocker Madness has always been free as long as I have been coming. It does make a difference if it is on a week night or sometime during the day on Saturday -- and if there is something to entertain the little ones. If it's on a week night, it is usually too late (especially since school is in session) for families to attend -- so your "free" doesn't even come into play. On a weekend during the day is different. It can make a great afternoon or early evening for the entire family. AND Wichita State has to let Wichita and the surrounding area know that it is going on. In past years, the whole scene has been extremely lame (except the scrimmages) that it is almost an embarrassment to know that recruits come to this thing. The only reason I ever go is to get a look at the new guys on the team. But WSU has to get the word out. Most of Wichita never even knows it is going on or it is "oh yeah, I think I remember hearing once about that coming up."
Considering it never gets promoted at all, if it is promoted with FREE in it, it'll do wonders. This town seems to latch on to free more than any town I can think of that I've been to. You can get defensive about it all you want, but it's true.

Yeah, this thing needs to be promoted the hell out of. It needs to be refreshed. I would hope the Athletic Department would be on top of this now that ESPN is involved. I'd like to assume yes but you never know..

I remember we got like 7-8 k after the Sweet 16 year. I would hope we would see an automatic increase after a freaking Final Four and lots of preseason love. Again.. I would HOPE.

I do like the idea of the other athletes being there to hype their sport and mingle. I first started going to volleyball games because of one phone call from a volleyball player. Student participation is required to get some sound and excitement into the arena for this event. This should set the stage for the winter and spring sports. Let the volleyball players throw items into the crowd. They probably have better arms than the baseball team. :) Remember the year MT and DS rode motorcycles into the arena?

The ESPN broadcasts usually just show 5 minutes max of coverage of each team they chose to cover. Which is great, don't get me wrong, but it's not like it'll hone in on each thing we do.

It certainly was packed in those days. I think with some good promotion it could be packed again. With espn coming, we need to pack it again.

This. People are over analyzing it too much. With the minimal coverage Koch Arena will get, I'm sure they could get enough footage to make it look like it was a great atmosphere. Just think about the commercials you see on why you should visit such and such state or city. They could make Wichita look like a fantastic and glorious city if they just showed certain neighborhoods and areas of town.

Minimal coverage could still show a ton of empty seats.

So let me get this straight...

Shocker Madness is in pretty much two weeks right!!!??? Do you all realize this? The wait is over. I've almost survived another off season.

The worst thing for me is that I have to miss the season openers...including the banner drop with WKU. The good news is the reason for that is because I am taking my wife on a lllooonnnnnggg awaited trip to London. Took a lot of saving, but I came through because I am a knight in shining armor right?

So I wonder what are the chances I could substitute missing a couple Shocker games with a couple Ben Smith London Lions games? Fat chance she'll let me do it but we'll see :)

                              Can't wait for this season

Len Elmore will be the ESPN voice at WSU's Shocker Madness on Oct. 18.

Robert's big brother comes to the CKA. I wonder if he has ever been here before?
