Sexton made an interesting point at board meeting/retreat last week - only four(4) teams currently in the Valley have won the AST. Those teams are WSU, SIU, ISU(R) and MSU. WSU has won the most by leaps and bounds. I don't know how many former members hold - CU, TU, Cincy, etc.

        Edit (list included):

        Oklahoma State - 5
        Tulsa - 2
        Houston - 5
        Cincinnati - 4
        Memphis - 3
        North Texas - 2
        Southern Illinois - 5
        Illinois State - 12
        Missouri State - 4
        Wichita State - 20

Is it really a good thing that we are dominating the All-Sports competition in recent years to the extent we are or is that just another sign that we really need to find a new conference affiliation?

Not only do we obviously have the most invested in the conference's marquee sport, but we are one of the few schools who legitimately tries to win the All-Sports Trophy. Have I mentioned that I'm done with the Valley?

                Yes to both questions.

It is definitely looking more and more like WSU is in need of some better competition across the board.

So my question is have we mathematically won the trophy this year?

With SIU finishing no better than 6 in baseball, by my math at least, yes.

Theoretically, if the Shocker baseball team collapses it could finish as low as 6th place. It half the Men's and Women' track teams were eliminated they might both finish last in the MVC Championships (although it might take more than that to do the trick). If that happened the Shocks would finish with an All-Sports average of 3.20

If Illinois State wins the regular season baseball championship outright and takes 1st place in both the men's and women's Valley T&F Championships then they would edge out the Shocks with a 3.18 average.

That is the only scenario I see that would cost the Shockers another All-Sports Trophy. So technically the Shockers have not absolutely clinched the trophy as of this point in time. However, the chances that they don't win it are probably about the same as someone completing a perfect bracket for the NCAA Basketball Championships.
