    Just saw this today: http://www.kansascity.com/2013/07/17...asketball.html

Bummed that the Shox-Depaul game will be on ESPN3 and not ESPNU or 2.

Editor's note: Over two days, we're releasing the brackets/matchups for 11 of the top early-season events. A thread of previews and info for all 11 tourneys can be found here.

No freaking lie. Most Texas fans aren't very basketball savvy, but I think even they'd recognize they probably aren't cleaning up in this tourney...

If they know they're playing in it at all.
Deep in the heart of couldn't give a crap about college basketball-land and I miss the SHOX.

Jeff ******* is officially a tool. If there was any doubt, this confirms it.

And I'm pretty sure both of these games at least made ESPNU last year. And now one of them doesn't even make a television channel? And it's the one involving a previous Final Four team and best NBA prospect?

          Yep.. that makes sense..

I read where the Maui Invitation starts the same day, and that's limiting the number of TV slots on the ESPN networks.

It's the exact same setup as has been in the past. You're right. Maui does start the same day. Just like last year, and the year before, and the year before that..

It didn't stop the CBE from not getting tv before.

After a lot of thought, the CBE decided that WSU vs DePaul was a forgone conclusion and put the lesser game on broadcast TV? I have no idea but I expect it to piss off HCGM and the Shockers.

I suppose we could check with former Wichitan Roger Wallace, who has found his niche in Austin -- but it's hard to imagine that many have a clue. All they care about at this point (at most points) is football, and that the X Games are coming to Austin for four years.

I guess I'm not really familiar with the CBE Classic system. If we already know WSU/Depaul and Texas/BYU are playing in KC, what is the point of the host/sub-host rounds with other teams? Why do we have to play two other games against crappy teams if we already know we're playing in the semi-finals? Why isn't the CBE Classic just four teams in KC?

This is an NCAA exempt tournament. You get to play extra games without them counting on your schedule. I think that only the games in KC count on your schedule.

If not for these exempt tournaments, we would only be allowed to play 27 regular season games. Instead, you see us go over 27 every year because we always get into an exempt tournament.

@shockmonster: is dead on. Here is the relevant NCAA bylaw:

                            17.3.5 Number of Contests.
                            17.3.5.1
                            Maximum Limitations—Institutional.
An institution shall limit its total regular-season playing schedule with outside competition in basketball during the playing season to one of the following (except for those contests excluded under Bylaw 17.3.5.3): (Revised: 4/27/06 effective 8/1/06)
                            (a) 27 contests (games or scrimmages) and one qualifying regular-season multiple-team event per Bylaw 17.3.5.1.1; or
                            (b) 29 contests (games or scrimmages) during a playing season in which the institution does not participate in a qualifying regular-season multiple-team event.
                            17.3.5.1.1
                            Qualifying Regular-Season Multiple-Team Event.
A qualifying regular-season multiple-team event is one in which: (Revised: 4/27/06 effective 8/1/06)
                            (a) The event is sponsored by the NCAA, an active or affiliated member or a member conference of the Association and must take place in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Canada, Mexico or the United States or one of its territories; (Revised: 4/26/07 effective 8/1/07, 1/15/11 effective 8/1/11)
                            (b) The event includes not more than four contests per institution and concludes not later than 14 days after the first contest of the event;
                            (c) Participation is limited, by conference, to one team per conference and, by institution, to not more than once in the same event in any four-year period; and
                            (d) Each participating institution is using Bylaw 17.3.5.1-(a) as its maximum contest limitation for the playing season in which it participates in the event.
                            In other words:
If a school does not play in an exempt tournament, they can schedule 29 games.
If a school does play in an exempt tournament, they can schedule 27 games, plus the tournament (which can be up to 4 games), therefore a total of 31 games.

I wonder what Coach's thoughts are on this considering he got an offer for us to play in the Bahamas after our Final Four run...he had already committed to this tourney and to top it off the CBE people told coach we would be the premier team. He thought it would be best not to ruffle any feathers and stick with his commitment...kinda wish he hadn't now.
