  • future shocker zach brown..

..highly regarded recruit from tx, is allowed to take classes and participate with the team this summer (as per the eagle)?! even though he is going back to south kent for one more season? even though he hasn't signed with wichita state yet? so, steve forbes can put him through some fundamental skills drills already?

now this kid won't have to red-shirt? i'm tellin 'ya.. it just keeps getting better and better for the shockers.

    - 'didn't put this in recruiting because it has to do with summer workouts going on now -

If he wants to go back to South Kent for his post-graduate year, he'll play against strong competition. But it would be nice if he was here in Wichita at Sunrise.

Hard to imagine a better situation than this. He gets to come down here and get acquainted with everybody. He gets to play with the Srs from the F4 team that will be gone when he gets here to play. He gets to talk to the coaches and find out exactly what they want him to work on this year.

i expect he will be checking Cle out pretty closely. It's great that Zach gets some time with Cle to learn a bit from him.

If there are three things that young men coming into the program need to work on they are....DEFENSE, DEFENSE and lastly DEFENSE.

I think there are some classes you can take at WSU and most other schools without having graduated from High School and those classes may apply at your current school with some restrictions being applied. I think that at least some of the math courses could fulfill a dual purpose.

This situation is so good, it seems illegal. Glad it isn't.

Does this start his 5-year clock?

Technically he isn't done with high school, so I would say no.

Not at all. Summer classes like this are fairly common with HS kids. He's not doing anything that a regular student can't do so it has no effect.

Most high schools have agreements with junior colleges to either use a JC teacher who teaches (say College Algebra or Trigg) the course as a computer/correspondence course, a high school teacher who has the credentials to teach at the JC and the high school (the college and HS get together and agree) they teach the course on campus for dual credit, or another agreed upon arrangement. Either way, the student has to pay the college for the course, and the high school gives dual credit. Some students will build up as much as 20 college credits or so prior to entering college. I would think that a part time student who may be taking 3-6 hrs. of credit will not be on the 5 yr. clock. I don't know the rules regarding who would have to pay for the college courses or if they could actually practice with coaches present. I would think that kids would be allowed to play in pick up games at the least.

I had 18 hours of college credit prior to my freshman year. It came in really handy when I was a senior and I only had to take 12 credit hours…LOTS of beer that year.
