  • Marshall's contract.

I know they are working on revamping HCGM contract after our marvelous run in the tourney, but figured it would have been finalized by know. Anyone know when this will happen? Kind of interested in the specifics.

Does it matter? He seems happy as our coach & we're happy with him in the position. The program is trending upward. All seems fine.
our record against BcS is positive.
His paycheck is good, our record is good, our facilities are good, our travel is good & our future compared to a Final Four run looks good.

if 3G ever leaves, I hope we dont have a meltdown for the negative, because he has done so much already for this program...but we arent satisfied right??

I don't think the reaction would be negative unless he left the program in a very bad situation, ala HCMT.

That said, I hope his contract takes a big jump in the next few weeks, and it keeps trending upwards along with our program. I want him here forever.

At this point, I think it's more important to 3G that we can make sure his assistants are getting paid better and that his recruiting budget is increased. Sure, a bump in his pay is a nice gesture and looks good to the outside world, but I think the two I mentioned before that are probably just as if not more important to him right now. It also helps when it comes to keeping assistants if they're paid better. And I know we pay them fairly well as it is.

If you don't care, fine. But others do. So yes. It does matter.

Jans needs to be paid like a head coach, at least one at any other Valley school. Pay that man his money.

                **Insert @WstateU: Rounders meme**

Bump Jans to 1/4 mill+ and upgrade his CC and we're set. Mrs. Jans loves the 316. Make it VERY hard to leave.

I've said the same thing before, and now that the 3rd assistant seems to have become a revolving door, I believe it is even more important.

One thing about assistant coaches, good head coaches WANT them to achieve, excel and get a better gig. I doubt very seriously that any of those that have left have done so for only more dollars.

                      Agreed

                      What's this?

I love Coach Jans's and Coach Heier's intensity. I've noticed that they have a true connection to these student-athletes. ACCJ and ACGH demonstrate a knowledge and passion for the game. It is plain to see that they are head coach-caliber assets to this program and they need to be compensated as such. Per the comment from the previous poster -- I couldn't agree more that the assistants need to be given raises as well as an increase in the recruitment budget. Recruitment is the lifeblood of this program. Sure, it's nice to have a coach like HCGM running the show and putting our program on the map. However, as seen with former WSUBBHCGS: recruitment, or the lack thereof, could very well be the difference between sustaining a strong winning tradition, or a buy-out of your contract to avoid slipping into another year of mediocrity, regardless of all of your accolades and accomplishments.

Also, in regards to recruitment, there's a lot to be said after coming off of a Final Four run. However, sometimes the true reason a student-athlete decides to attend Wichita State and be a member of the team is because they are wanted. The sense of family and loyalty from being recruited from day one is a common theme that I've seen from players past and present. I know our coaching staff acknowledges this and that's why I am so excited for the future of Wichita State Men's Basketball.

                      Go Shockers!

No doubt Jans deserves to be a head coach now, but we should make it difficult for our top assistants to leave unless it's an obvious upgrade. I don't know what all of the assistants make right now, but I agree with WuDrWu that Jans should have compensation in the 250-300k range and Heier should get a quality raise as well.

I'm honestly surprised that Jans hasn't been considered for more jobs the past few years. I doubt there are many associate head coaches for any school in the country better and more ready than him to lead a team of their own. With that said, I love having him here and would love to keep him forever.

+ Air travel budget. This is a big deal to coaches and I don't blame them.

Yes. Marshall has said before "there's only so many hamburgers I can buy." As much as he needs and deserves a pay raise, we also need to show him we will spend money on the program itself. If he has every tool and every resource at his disposal in order to be very successful ("very successful" = recruit top talent, go to final fours, win national championships) here, then it will be VERY hard for him to find any reason to go somewhere else.
