“It would need to be in an area where I can pluck some kids, a school where the in-state talent is strong,” he said.

And he ends up in Kansas.

I think Coach Marshall should get a lot of atta boys for this hire.

I've noticed over time that Chris Jans and Forbes seem to have quite a bit of communication on twitter with each other. Those two are either good buds or have a very strong network connection. Either way I bet Jans played a big part in this.

Jans replaced Steve Forbes at Illinois State when Forbes left for aTm. They both have Iowa roots and Forbes was a candidate for the Iowa job last time around.

Wow. First five star in a while next year? This is like the recruiting dream team.

                    61-6!?

...and apparently two of the losses were in title games. Its hard for me to really call those "losses" in the same way as a regular season game.

Here is a guy who is basically undefeated in the last two seasons.

Here is a guy who is a candidate for D-1 HEAD coaching jobs, and we get him to replace KT Turner/Dana Ford???

..."Among the nine newcomers in Niceville on Monday, post player Steven Hurt stood out. At 6-foot-11, 275 pounds, Hurt was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Freshman of the Year during his one season playing at Lipscomb University in Nashville. Now at NWF State, Hurt already finds himself as one of the most highly regarded prospects in junior college basketball, as he boasts nearly two dozen scholarship offers from Division I universities, including basketball powers like Louisville, Kansas and Arizona. “Steven is big, physical and he knows how to play basketball,” said Forbes. “He averaged 11 points, eight rebounds as a freshman and I think he had double-doubles against teams like Kentucky, Memphis, Ole Miss…And he’s a very good student. He’s coming to us as a very focused player.” Hurt will be joined up front by the Raiders’ two returning players in the person of 6-9 forward Tevin Glass (Atlanta, GA) and 6-11 center Michael Chandler (Indianapolis, Ind.). "
Am I reading this right - that Forbes was at NWFS 3 years? Wouldn't that make him Carl Hall's coach for one year?

                            Today, from HoopDirt.com:

                            • I have heard from a good source that Northwest Florida head coach Steve Forbes is involved with a spot on the staff at Wichita State. The former Tennessee assistant is 62-6 in his two seasons at NWF. It sounds like an announcement could come as early as today about the position.

If true, that's quite a hire for the 3rd assistant position. I wonder if part of Marshall's contract enabled him to get more funds for this coach.

how much does the 3rd assistant make? Forbes is making $60,000 (down from $200,000 when an assistant at Tenn.)
