And please don't discount what Mal and Ehimen did. If we're to win, we'll have to do so in a different way because we aren't replacing either of their skill sets this fall.

Obviously which team or teams are better in the final run is subjective and everyone's entitled to their opinion.

Mine is that this year's team and all future teams can only be considered as good as or better if they equal or better the 2012/2013 team's NCAA Final Four run. And, up to now, only one other WSU team has earned this right. Although, our Elite 8 was another whale of a team and certainly a case could be made.

But as of now, having not played a single game, nor having even played in a full practices, all we can say is that this year's team certainly has a lot of great potential. And let's hope that potential is fulfilled in every game this season and future seasons.

But in the long run, it is how well you do in the NCAA Tournament that dictates greatness. Nothing I would enjoy more than saying at the very end of this year's BB season that this year's team is by far the best team in Shocker history.

I thought this subject was most deftly addressed in today's sport section. Oregon States' Coach, Pat Casey (whose baseball team has advanced to Omaha and is playing for the National Championship) was interviewed and was asked to compare his 2006 championship team with this year's team, and he stated that:

"He's careful not to compare this year's team to the 2006 squad, though the situation makes it seem unavoidable.

"They're all different clubs, they're different personnel. I think they've got a pretty good understanding of what it is they have to do. We talk about things that this team needs to do and they usually respond."

Let's hope that HCGM is afforded the chance to make a similar response(s) just prior to the end of the 2014/2015/2016/ 2017, etc., NCAA Four Four Championship games.

I judge a season in two parts: regular season and post season. Last year we had a good, not great regular season and a great post season. I am hoping this season we can have a better regular season and enjoy the ride after that.

its almost inevitable to not have a better regular season, but nothing is promised...and the NCAA tournament is never promised, but its a crapshoot for the most part, based on matchups and draws...

                        2009-2010 Post Season
                        Pitt - 13 points NCAA 2nd Round
Utah State - 10 points NCAA 1st Round
                        Nevada - 4 points NIT
                        2010-2011
Uconn - 4 points National Champion
                        VCU - 1 point Final 4
San Diego State - 14 points Sweet 16
                        2011-2012
                        Alabama - 10 points NCAA 2nd Round
Temple - 4 points OT NCAA 3rd Round
                        VCU - 3 points NCAA 3rd Round
                        2012-2013
                        Tennessee - 9 points NIT
                        Louisville - 4 points Nat'l Champion
And only 4 of those losses by double digits.

Only 4 games in the past 4 years, against non-conference opponents, were we not right there at the end.

                        That's insane.

Helluva point! That game will have an asterisk next to it for all time.

I do the same thing with the Pitt game in KC. With Clevin Hannah, we win that game. Thank you very much, NCAA.

I talked to HCGM at the Air Capital Classic last week. He couldn't stop talking about Carter. He is as ready for D-I as any Juco player in recent memory. Very active and isn't afraid of anyone. Has a well rounded game and will fit the Shocker system from day one. He also likes to play angry!!!

Don't forget the VCU game in 2011 when Joe Ragland "fouled" Joey Rodriguez at the end. If the ref swallowed his whistle there, the Shockers could have been the ones busting brackets in route to the Final Four in Houston instead of VCU. Not much sleep was gained by Yours Truly that night.
