  • Longest Tenured Coaches in Division I

Patrick Stevens of D1scourse.com and formerly of the Washington Times ranked each coach in the nation on tenure this morning, a list I reorganized to highlight a few conferences, one of which being the Valley:

A couple of interesting nuggets here...Gregg is already the third-longest tenured coach in the league, and each coach has been hired within the last seven years.

Jim Boeheim is still longest-tenured coach in nation after 37 years at Syracuse, but Stony Brook's Steve Pikiell holds that distinction am...

Interesting to see #2 is just a month in front of Gregg, and #1 is just a year in front.

Based on all that info the only consistent thing I see is that coaching is a very unstable job to have.

How many of the current MVC coaches got their gig because the previous coach was fired vs. the previous coach moving on to another job?

Off the top of my head, I know WSU, UNI, ISU-R, ISU-B, and MSU all had coaches leave and SIU, BU, and DU had coaches fired. What about Evansville and Loyola?

Loyola, takes some getting used to but I have warmed to their presence. Given Creighton's absence for the first time in, oh I don't know, ever I EXPECT to win the IIVC err, I mean MVC conference regular season.

As for the topic of the thread I believe the transitions are a blessing and a curse. A blessing in that teams and their coaches are winning and moving on. A curse in that the IIVC, err MVC lacks destination jobs. Other than our beloved alma mater which program in Creighton's absence is even close to a destination job. Please bare in mind the caveat for destination jobs excludes departures for alma maters or home states.

          Go IIVC err MVC!

Thanks. That's what I thought, but I couldn't remember for sure.
